Caliper bolts need to be replaced?

I removed my calipers for powdercoating and I was told to throw the bolts out and get new ones when re-installing. Is that absolutly required or can I re-use the original bolts?

Technically, yes. They are torque to yield bolts. i.e. torque to x#'s then turn x degrees. I believe you will be fine with loctite though. At least in the interim if you want to order the bolts. Lots of folks have reused them.

Red or blue locktite and do you have the torque/turn specs?

edit: found the torque specs: front 44 lb/ft 90 deg, rear 30 lb/ft 90 deg

Like it has already been said, technically they should be replaced because the bolts have been strained passed their yield point and have "stretched." However many people do it and the bolts will still hold the recommended torque. When re-using, definitely loctite the bolts and DO NOT turn them the extra 90 degrees. This will stretch the bolts more and possibly not leave enough thread engagement to hold the torque.

The XA coilover install is done....finally! The calipers are installed I just have to do the bleeding. I only get a couple hours each weekend to do any garage work so it takes me forever to get anything done! I'm just waiting on wheels and tires now so I can lower the car and tighten up the front coilovers and have alignment done! Can't wait till spring!

The factory bolts as stated are torque to yield but I'll use them once and then I'd replace them on the next go around. I use Red Loctite and torque them to the factory spec. Come on Spring!!!!!

Kind regards,

What is the part number for the bolts? My dealer searched today and said they are on back order everywhere. Said not in stock at any dealerships. Any vendors have any?

I had the same problem, one dealer told me they were $4 apiece and another told me $11 a piece!! I just used my original bolts and blue loctite.

Thanks for the number. So annoying to pay 100% extra for shipping and handling.
