20" Summer tires?

I am about to place an order and I am discussing ordering the 20" Midnight finish wheels. I live in Charlotte, NC and it rains here often in the winter and temps can drop below 40s every now and then.

Are the stock 20" tires good to go in the rain? If they, are not I might as well save the money and buy couple 19" with all weathers later on.

Thanks guys.

Hi Blade, welcome to C5!

My car is still on order, but I'm sure some of the others around here will answer your question. I think most of the folks in the northern states are replacing with winter or all-weather. about NC

order the cheapest tires and rims then go to ebay and get a brand new set of 20s for about 1200 dollars. they are not bad in the rain but then again when i got caught in the rain i only did 45 mph all the way home

I never had any traction issues with the summer tires in the rain, but once the temp got below 40 they were horrible. Unless your temp only gets below 40 once or twice a year I recommend getting all-season tires.

Cheapest option I could get was to get the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires as they come in the sizes to fit the stock rims.

They have plenty of traction in the cold, the rain, and I have yet to try them in the snow.

Your car still looks stock with these on them. Also feels like stock driving it too.

The summers are potentially dangerous in the rain... I have read others posting similar experiences to mine.

more than once driving in rainy weather... as it rains out here a lot.... i have had the car suddenly skipping/hopping in a jerking like motion to the side very fast..... i lucked out and nobody was next to me, but you can imagine how that could have been disasterous.

I noticed it seemed to be more of an issue when the road become un-smooth or was an area undergoing construction, or in places where you see those tar lines where they fill in pot holes and cracks in the road.

Still.. "summer" tires. I'd invest in some all seasons.

I am selling my summers, and probably putting winters on my stock midnights, and then put some all seasons on a new set of rims completely... Don't see nearly enough sun out here to justify the pzero summers. and i don't hit the track.
