Fueling Issue

I have an SS/RS and when my daughter was put gas in the tank, the switch on the nozzle would not stay engaged. This is like when the tank is full, the switch disengages automatically. Anybody had a similar experience and whats the solution?

Yeah it happens... Pull it back about a half an inch and try it again. The vapor recovery systems are very sensitive.

Doesn't work for me here in Cali. I have to hold mine fully seated to not have to hold the handle. That means I have to hold the damn thing at the proper angle the whole time or it will shut off! I have tried everything and at different stations. Oh well small price to pay to have such a cool car.

This is not a problem with the car, this is actually a problem with the nozzles. If you look at the end of the nozzle, you will see a little hole. This hole is used to sense the vapors from the gas to shut off the nozzle. When people over fill their car by holding down the nozzle (when you are trying to get a few more cents into the tank) gas flows into the hole and becomes stuck. This gas give the sensor a false positive and shuts off prematurely. There are new designs for the nozzles that relocate the sensor to decrease this but it still can happen.

Sometimes you can hold the nozzle at different angles to move the gas away from the sensor but if there is too much in there, it won't work.

I have to tilt and hold the handle up otherwise it will shut off.

If it was a one-time issue, it was probably the nozzle your daughter was using. I've experienced that in my '91 before but only from one gas station, so it was definitely their pumps.

Since getting her 2LT on 12/7, my mother has complained--though it's the only complaint--that every single time she or my father has gone to get gas, regardless of where, no pump will stay on. Constantly clicks off, unless they hold it. I asked & was told they've tried holding at a different angle, etc., but "regardless, can only get it at 1/4 throttle, so to speak, it won't stay on period". Said they've used at least 3 different stations.

Sensitive systems, but happening every single time you fill up without fail? When one of the GM/Camaro engineers called her to survey, she told them about it but they didn't know anything about it. Weird. Hmm...

I dont understand why some people are having this prob. I have had my car for almost 5 months, 7500 miles and have never had this happen. I just set the lock and it cuts off when its full.

I have had the issue a time or two when the pump I am using pumps faster than average. If I try to set it with the lock it will kick off because of splash. If I get a station with a high pump rate I find that I have to hold the nozzle straight and pressed in to not splash back and kick off....Only happened 2 oor 3 times in 6k miles....

I have a habit of not sticking the nozzle in very far. Every time with the camaro, it clicks it off, then I shove it all the way in and it feels like the nozzle is opening a second door in the filler neck. After that, it works fine. Try making sure the nozzle is all the way in..
