Lowering your Camaro
I'm VERY new here and have tried to search the archives, but I must not have the brainpower to figure out how to find what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone can help me. I've seen a handful of pictures of Camaros that have been lowered. I think they look SHARP and wondered what it takes to do it. I'm not that mechanical and will have to take it to be done, so I'm wondering how long it takes and what kind of price I'll be looking at.
Thanks in advance from a self proclaimed newbie.

First off... Welcome to the forums
![]() Springs will probably cost you 200 - 350 and 1 or 2 hours installation fees. Should be able to get the whole thing done for 500. Lots of threads on it in here. Or maybe someone else has some recent experience. I'll be lowering mine soon. |

All you need to lower a car is lowering springs, since the springs are what give the height of the car.

WHat is the point of lowering a camaro? Is it strickly for looks with different wheels? Are there any performance differences with lowering the car?

Usually 3-4 hrs to install. So it will depend on the mechanic rate. I would expect at least $250-$300 just for the install. Then you'll need an alignment. I got price quotes on alignments from $70 - $170.
Look in the suspension section....plenty of info there. Your hardest part is going to be deciding on which brand to buy. No...you don't need new shocks. You'll only need the springs if you are going for looks.

All it takes is a set of springs which tend to run in the $300 range. Give a couple of shops in your area a call to see what installation will cost, but it shouldn't be bad. I always recommend an alignment any time to modify the suspension as well.

A lower center of gravity will have a great effect on handling, stiffer springs will also give less body roll and help with acceleration and braking, so yes the biggest reason ppl do it is for looks but there are other benefits

Just to really make you think..... you can also install an air system. Then if you have to drive down a bumpy road you can raise her a little.

Thank you all!! I had no idea I would receive so many responses to quickly!
One last question, will lowering affect the ride, i/e the smoothness of the ride? |

It will affect it a small bit... little stiffer but not bad at all. Will make curves much better and hold the road better.
