The g8 is pretty much even with the L99, with a slight advantage going to the L99. LS3 will win by a greater margin, but the g8 will blow the doors off the v6. The g8 also responds very well to mods, similar to the LS3/L99.
Doesn't the g8gt have an L99? |

They aren't that close at all. The best time I've found for a stock G8 GT was 13.5, well over half a second behind the best L99 time. The magazine tests put the G8 GT at 13.7-13.8 in the quarter, L99's were 13.0-13.1 I believe. The G8 GT features a 6.0L 361 hp L76. It is very similar to the L99 but less powerful. In a heavier car. The GXP, which the OP isn't talking about, has the LS3 and posts similar times to the Camaro SS's.

Why do I continually see people saying that this car or that car would stay close to the l99 but the ls3 would blow it away? Look at all of the numbers stock for stock the l99 has a slight edge. Not knocking the manual guys but the numbers are the numbers guys. No need to be a fanboy within a fanboy. We are all camaro fan boys in here. As for the g8 they are great cars and I almost bought one!

A more equal compirson would be the G8 GXP vs. Camaro SS (LS3 or L99). This matchup would still have the SS ahead slightly but a great driver behind the wheel of a GXP could be all the difference.

I lined up against a stock LS3 at the track and my low end torque murdered him off the line. When I hit 3rd i saw him and he flew right by. LS3 has the L99 beat on the high end and it's not as close as you may think. Good driver + LS3 = death of L99. |
