It comes with a nice thick mat that you put over the radiator before installing the intake. I have not noticed any problem whatsoever. Intake is cool to the touch when you open the hood.

No the mail slot isn't uesd.

Radiator. The top of the radiator is plastic so it's not a big deal. With this intake you can drive around, pop the hood, and find that the majority of the intake is cool. Right near the throttle body, the intake will be slightly warm.

No it does not use the mail slot. Has a insulation pad between the rad and intake.

Being caught on the bracket made it easy for me to mess up the threads on the car body side. I knew eventually, for my own sanity, I'd need to by a tap and clean up the threads.

The only way to tap the hole without making it worse would require removing the VR. This evening I removed the VR and took care of the threads with my new M6 x 1.00 tap and handle, along with addressing some other things.

In the first couple of pictures you can see where I cutback the fresh air fitting. I could have cut it back a bit more, but didn't want to push my already bad luck.

The final pictures are of my mounting system. My goal was to hold down the VR and yet allow a very small amount of front to back movement.

BackInBlackSS/RS, I hope you don't mind me adding more to your thread.
Nice Job, IndeedSS1! What size Aluminum pipe did you use?

Thanks Nomad.

The aluminum tube came from Lowes. It's 1/16 thick by 1/2 diameter. I cut it to make the two 1 inch spacers. All of the fastener hardware I picked up at Ace and is stainless. The bolts are M6 x 1.00mm x 1 3/4" (or close to that). There was quite a bit of play between the bolt and inner dia. of the tube. I cut a piece of bicycle inner tube and wrapped the bolt just enough that the pipe was lightly snug and stayed centered. There is a flat washer on the end to help prevent damaging the paint when tightening down.

Bolt>>lock washer>>flat washer>>spacer>>flat washer.

The picture made the spacer look too long but after I went back and looked from the top, I'm happy with the length.

You may be able to find a premade spacer at one of the big hardware stores to save some time, maybe even black nylon. Or at the very least with the right sized bolt in hand you may find a better size of aluminum pipe. I had my aluminum tube left over from some other project and it just happened to be a near perfect size.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that helps a lot. I was thinking about using a shoulder bolt along the same lines (if I could find one that fit). My Vararam hasn't arrived yet but I can pick up all of the hardware now. I'll pick up some of the Plasti-Dip also to help it blend in. It will probably work on the bracket for the catch can too.

Awesome. You'll be able to do everything at one time, once the VaraRam arrives... Pictures when you are done.

Are you there yet? I drive 60+ miles nearly everyday, so it doesn't take me long to hit 100.

mlee - thanks for the picture. Another creative job.

Paul - I like how the dip turned out. What do you think about the look and possible added protection?

Well, the pictures are not very good, but I think it looks great. Blends in very well. The dip provides a nice rubber coating over the L bracket so no metal is touching the intake. I love how this all turned out. That plasti dip
is some cool stuff.

A little too much orange for my taste, but it is nice. Now that is some radiator support bolts.

Glad you liked it. I have another small project that could use the plasti-dip, so I need to go buy some more. Then I may do my spacers too.
