A little update

Put some miles on the new intake today. I was monitoring fuel trims and IAT.
It was about a 30 mile cruise. Still don't have enough miles put in to report accurately on fuel trims but the LTFT are coming in at about -3.9% in all kinds of driving as of now. What impressed me the most is the IAT's. It's 48 here today. When driving IAT's were at 50 degrees. Went up a little at a stand still, but quickly and I mean quickly got back to 50 when I started going again. Stock box was not even close to that. When I got home the intake was cold to the touch and I don't mean not warm or hot, it was COLD. Never have I had an intake not feel at least pretty warm. If you look through the front of the grille you can see the wide mouth of the intake having full access to outside air. It is BADASS!!! On another note, I originally did not use the long bolts to secure the radiator. I was thinking about it and so what I did was use the stock bolts only and put them back in.
Not all the way though. What it does is keep the keep intake in place, but also helps stablilize the radiator. I think it is perfect AND you don't have to use those nasty looking stock brackets. Here is a couple of pics.

Cool. Thanks for the updates. It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but are the stock bolts just biting on to a small portion of the intake material. What made you decide you should add something? Too much movement?

I have an older version of the Vararam intake. The Intake itself is very stable. The issue from the beginning has always been the radiator moving back and forth. That was delt with by using long bolts that go from the radiator over the Intake back to the original radiator bolt holes. That does a pretty good job of securing the radiator. Without those bolts, the radiator will move back and forth very easily.

The bolts are just put in place and the intake is underneath the bolt. The bolts act as a guide to keep the intake in place which in turn stabilizes the radiator. The intake did not move, but I could move it up in the the front by hand, so there was movement possible. With this setup the intake cannot move up, it is solid.

Check out my use of the stock bolts. The radiator is very secure using this method, plus it's a very clean look.

It is definitely a better look.

I'm planning on getting a Vararam intake very soon, a few questions though. Currently there are no mods on my Camaro but I am planning on getting headers/exhaust and possibly a cam in the future. Should I get the tune or no tune model? If I get the tune model can it be tuned to my stock vehcle then retuned as I modify the engine? If I get the no tune model can it be changed to a tune model? Thanks for the help!

Tinkered somemore with stock radiator support screws

Ok, I guess I can't leave well enough alone. However, I was thinking about the stock bolts and using them as the support guides. Since they were not screwed all the way in, at some point could they fall out? I did not want to find out. So, I added some L brackets. Had to modify them slightly, but I think it came out great. Here are some pics.

PM the vararam rep who has posted in this thread, but I do believe the no tune can be made into a tune model. In case you haven't seen it, here's also a link.

I wonder what if any RWHP I would pick up if I were to switch from my Halltech over to the Vararam.

Hopefully a few others that have the new version will chime in here about their experiences. I also hope someone can do some dyno comparisons to see if the Vararam definately makes more power over other CAI out there.

Personally I like the looks of the Halltech better but if I could pick up an extra 10+ rwhp I might have to just pull the trigger and go beyond looks for performance.

Dam you Why did you have to bring that up? j/k

Good question though. And now that you have me worrying about it now, I'd like to know the answer.
