In any case, I really don't think GM would test it against the GT500 only to make it fail against it. Just doesn't sound right. Z28 for me...no matter what.
There is no GM performance division. It was disbanded pre-bankruptcy. Although it might be back after the new GM resurfaced, I haven't heard any news confirming this though....

so here's my question....

if the new Camaro was, let's just say 3/4 second slower than the mustang (all things being equal...i know there are a lot of variables in racing) when it first came out, would you all have still bought one? knowing its slower? kind of like the challenger people...

3/4s is a lot. I'd hope the Camaro team wouldn't dream of giving up that much ground to a competitor. I'd still probably get the car though. The other two don't have anything on the style and design of the car, imo.

Tell that to the Ford Focus RS....if they can pull off the Aveo, more power to 'em, I say!

I didn't say I'd love what the new GM Performance division is working on...but they're back, and that's good.

Alot of people on here might have still bought one but it would have not been as nearly successful as it has been. Just look at the Challenger sales figures compared to the Camaro and even Mustang. For someone like me it would have been a choice of great looks vs the top performing pony car and if the Mustang had been a better car than I certainly would have givin it alot more thought in my buying decision. I think the rest of the public would have thought the same way. The 2011 sales figures will be very close for both cars and look what changed. Nothing changed for the Camaro and the Mustang looks the same but now has performance on par or maybe just a little better than the Camaro. What I am trying to say is that performance has a huge impact on a customers buying decision when it comes to sports/pony/muscle cars.

depends. If the Z28 gets the LSA then you are completly correct. If the Z28 gets a LS9 or motor with fully forged internals than the Z28 will be cheaper. With the Z28 having a LS9 you could bolt a KB or whipple SC on or turbo kit and get 800RWHP safely. If the car only cost 45k then that would be a great bargain since you never will have to pull a valve cover. It would just need a different FI kit plus fuel mods and bolt ons.

I don't think anyone will be able to mod an SS to Z28-spec and do it cheaper than the real thing. If they could....there would really not be any market for a Z28, then.

why do people assume it's all about hp? yea that's a great deal but it isn't. guess because that's just an easy number for people to grasp.

if they can run a charger on an ls7 then the lsa can put down 800 hp safely to the ground. now how long who knows but we will see. I know we will because some idiot will do it. and it will probably be me.

I would be Ok with the Z28 not being a supercharged beast. I would actually prefer it to be a nimble track star....... not just a straight line monster.

If the Z28 does not outperform the 2011 GT500, I would be really surprised.

Ford has the 'Ford Racing' group, that dwarfs offerings by others...

Thanks guys...that clears everything. Both are great cars, I guess is comes down to brand loyalty. I just hope the Z28 does not disappoint.

I don't think it will. I think it will come down to brand loyalty/personal taste.
