I had the same issue but I forgot the black sleve that came with the kit. i had no clue what it was for so i left it out. It has a big slit up one side and its ment to go into the piping and the slit it for the MAF sensor clearance.

Battery disconnect is kind of a must, but also pulling fuses no 5 and 20 overnight will help also to reset the computor.

I had a K&N Cold Air Intake (part # 63-3074) installed on my '11 Camaro SS over a week ago. I also had a Check Engine Light come on after the install. I took my car to another shop that ran a diagnostic check to find out why the CEL was still on. The code he found indicated that it was due to a "Purge Control Solenoid Circuit", which affected the Evaporator Emissions. He noticed that the purge switch wasn't connected, so apparently this was forgotten after the install. He reconnected it, so that fixed the problem.

what does the sleeve actually do. I have the spectre 9909 intake and i put it in but why would it cause it to go lean if left out?

You know, i'm not really sure what it does. Maybe it directs the air over the MAF or something. Odd thing is that some intakes have the added sleve, and some don't.
