I think there is a little something that GM can learn from this in the next 2 years. Volt doesn't have have to match Mercedes or BMW in looks and interior. All Volt has to do is come is the same price range as the other hybrids which is about 25k and look like one. Now, the concept looks like something out of a Science fiction movie. It doens't have to be that edgy and hot. It just has to work, like Bob Lutz said: "the best thing about the car is that it works. Jazz it up later once you got the powertrain working. They got 2 years to do that. I don't mind if the car has an acceleration comperable to that of mack truck. If you can get it up to a speed of at least 85 mph, and it works just like a normal everyday car, it's fine to me. I just hope you don't have to change that $15k Battery every 5 years or something. Might as well buy a new car for that. First thing is first. Camaro has to be a proven hit, SUV's have to slow production as the cross overs and Malibus come off the lines. Volt will be the the first step.

45k (still unofficial; and most likely over-quoted) for the Volt, and only some 10,000 units produced the first year?
I think they'll sell every last one of them. Recoup the investment (or start to), and watch the price drop over the next years like a new cell phone. "Sticker Shock" is right, because given gas prices, and the fact that the ideal consumer would NEVER use gas...this car comes out to something more like 30-35k...

Compound that with the fact that the only other electric vehicle currently on the market is a cargo-less, two-seat roadster that will put you back 100 grand..........

Camaro = Didja see the stripes?!?! Wow. Very nice look this car has, and it's amazing how much work they're putting into it...really amazing. Plus, look at it this way - in a [basically] 5-part special about the future and good health of GM; the Camaro took up 1/5th of programming time. Just another car? I don't think so....

I thought it was a VERY well put together show. Lots of info, no opinions; and plenty of great quotes from Bob Lutz. Can you tell he wants to beat up Company T?

EDIT: 65bus, your thread has been merged with the original.

That was an awesome show!

And Dragon, now I KNOW what you meant about those stripes!!! That just looked killer! I was like, "holy....I've only seen that in photoshops!!! But THAT, looks even better!!!"

Great show...

Now....

I see the point about how one would think it could make GM look bad. BUT, the purpose was to show how GM looked bad....IN THE PAST. Everyone said fit and finish wasn't really in the budget and interiors were poor in the last 10 years. Well, GM figured this out and is doing everything in their power to change that perception. THAT is what they were attempting to do.

A guy hitting cones? To me, that shows someone pushing a vehicle BEYOND it's limits because they want to test a vehicle to it's maximum capability. That's EXACTLY what I expect Consumer Reports to do. I saw that as a driver beating on a car that was at it's breaking point....or flipping point. And, if you noticed, it didn't roll and it was moving pretty damn quickly. For someone who doesn't understand, it looks like they are driving a car that can't handle.

45 too much for a Volt? Projected prices. And, Dragon had some good points. How much does gas cost these days? How many thousands of dollars to people spend on average per year?....knock that off the price of the car per year for savings. Prius went down in price because they are recouping on their investment. The Volt hasn't seen the light of day yet....and like Bob said, "It works!" That's the most important part. This was the best idea GM could have ever had right here. Honestly, do you think the Hybrid (mainly electric) idea is going to stop right here???!!!??? It's going to carry over (the technology) into many other cars as well. GM WILL recoup it's billions put into the Volt and will make BILLIONS in return off the technology.

Dude...if you think waiting for Feb is going to be a long time to have to wait for the Camaro....... Some of us have been waiting since 2002! And, worse yet??? We HAD something to wait for since 2006!....

"He took a corner too wide........." It's called human error. It could happen in any vehicle with someone who...."take a corner too wide." If someone blames the car for that problem and not the driver.....duh......

I thought this entire show was about the good that is coming out of GM right now. I thought it showed that GM made errors in the past and made a HUGE turnaround in fit and finish....hell in all quality. You guys see that CTS-V?!?!

i was impressed with the entire thing... but there was one clip. 1 second, maybe 2, of a black Camaro and i was FLOORED.

That highdeff clip alone just settled all the thoughts i had about color. now... stripes or no stripes?

^Man, there's this part where it's just one, after another, after another, after another, after another coming around a bend and it's like..."HOLY +_+++!!! When will it stop!!!" There were so many clips I could go back to....

It wasn't completely focused on the Camaro, which I thought was great. It was allllll about GM and how they are going to take over the world. I mean, get back into the 50's era where the money you spent actually got you the highest quality you could get. It's impressive....the whole shoot. I was floored and caught my wife's eyebrows raise and her eyes get a big a few times. THAT means something when she's impressed!

Great show!! I love Bob Lutz's attitude. Same for Ed Welburn. It's great to hear these big execs at the top talk like car guys. Almost like kids even! And that clip of all those Camaros coming around the S-curve one right after another, with that exhaust note... Sounded like a bunch wild animals on the prowl for something to devour!!! (I think I just heard some Mustangs sprinting for cover)
