SURE, it takes away the fun factor, but saves lives..There is NO practical purpose for allowing a car to go that fast.

Irony?

There is no denying this is tragic but over all these cars require the owner to have some responsibility and common sense. I am sure that nobody intends to crash but there are plenty of wide open safe spaces out west you can wind this car out safely and take your chances on the ticket. Being active duty military I have lived in Germany for 5 years and ran the autobahn all the time. The problem is that the US roads are not designed for speeds that these cars can put out. I often ran at 120+ and the only reason I kept that low was the fuel consumed at that speed is nuts. So with out ranting I just want to say the car is not the problem but as I see it the problem is where you choose to use the speed.

Oh. Lots of power is also good for fast passing to.

By all means lets never live just so we can make sure nobody dies.

My question is, why not require stricter licensing for vehicles? Why not REQUIRE people take defensive driving classes?

The number of people with cars capable of killing them is damned near 100%.

I had a friend die doing 55 on an interstate, had to do an emergency lane change and it rolled.

Would that have happened had it been governed at 45?

This desire to be nannied bothers the hell out of me.

If I want to kill myself goddammit that's my choice. If my passenger wants to ride with me, that is theirs.

I agree with all of this EXCEPT the last tiny bit. Did the driver say "I am going to go 140, crest a hill, roll end over end several times and die... Do you want to ride along?"... NO! But, in this case the passenger was fine so its a moot point. If the passenger had died and the drive lived, it would be a different story!

had a friend with him riding shotgun who was fine, walking around.

the engine block landed about 50 yards away from the chassis. the only way that i could tell it was a Camaro was the red SS symbol that was still intact on the trunk.

i love my car, and wouldn't trade it for anything...but let's all be safe and go home at the end of the day
how sad..This death should have never happened..Anyone driving that speed on the open road, even a road they are familiar with ought to have their head examined before it ends up splattered all over the highway...

yes be safe not sorry...

This is why one should test a car's capability only on a given track. In the event of an unexpected situation, safety guidelines are in place so that one may be able to survive such a situation. The choice is yours..

Hell I'm not offended. I just personally think that is the kind of thing a self-reliant intelligent adult should be able to kill in the crib is all. I'm not like all up in arms over it, but you have to admit that mentality is growing ever more prevalent. So it does kinda fall into the "kill it! kill it with fire!" category.

No but I doubt the passenger said "hey man slow down"...impossible to tell but, you know, you get into a sports car with someone, it's your responsibility. I don't ride with people I don't trust. I don't get in my friends RX-8 because he can't drive for crap.

I'm just saying, it's still your responsibility. Now, someone coming down the road, yeah obviously not a situation they wanted to be a part of.

But the bottom line is still, we can pretend like we can prevent people from dying, but we can't. The only way to guarantee you don't die from something preventable is to live in a sealed bubble.

But there is no point then.

People don't even have to be doing something wrong for cars to turn deadly.
