The word Camaro doesn't even appear in the original post.

ok fair enough but it's only relevant to 90% of what the people are talking about right now in the 5th gen general discussion category.

Well, the company i work for is paying my visa, so if they lower my salary and I decide to quit I have to leave the country. But luckily I doubt it's gonna happen any time soon since I just got promoted and will be starting a new position in a different branch in January.

Hooray for me!

Strange thing is i got a notice with my paycheck today that our company will either have to lay off or start cutting back hours and it had a survey to see if we cut back to 4 days a week would you rather do that or get laid off or 3 days a week. Kinda scary cause if i lose this job its bye bye camaro unless i find another engineering job witch itsnt to common for a 19 year old.

Foster26, the Camaro's investment is justified. GM has invested to much to cancel it. There's no reasonable explanation for canceling it. I want to know what makes you think that the Camaro is somehow not justified. After all, the first 3 days of ordering resulted in over 3,000 orders, way over GM estimates, and the Camaro program has generated a buzz not seen since the original Camaro was released. We're looking at what appears to be a widely accepted, publicized, and sellable car.

You know, with a Bachelor's degree, you can teach at the AS level. Part time teaching gigs are cake and you can make some decent money.... Something to think about.

Hah. I get paid minimum wage. It's illegal to give me a paycut.

If I made 8 bucks an hour I'd tellem to shove it where the sun don't shine, If I'm making 20 bucks an hour and up, and the company is in dire straits, yes I'll help till we get back on our feet. (That's basically what IS happening with us now.)

We have taken drops in commissions and cancelled all pay increases in 08. Hopefully 09 will reward those of us who made the company profitable in 08.

Companies must do what they need to. I hope we are stable going into next year. I ordered the Camaro, but I do not want it to be my permanent home.

That's a darn good question. I'm a police officer. We can't just walk off when we don't get what we want. There's a lot of agencies that are hurting. I mean, job security is a for sure deal. But, the cities revenue must pay for our salaries....and when the city starts cutting them? That's why we have a negotiating team.

ok my math sucks but I was getting paid $19.50 as a heavy equipment operator, I am a union member, and when the scrap market took a dump over 40 out of 120 employees got laid off. I was downsized with many others to a general laborer and lost $5 an hour and 2 hours off my work schedule. Now normally losing 2 hours from a 12 hour shift wouldn't upset me, but those 2 hours were double time. I chose to stay with the company cause the benefits are good and I'm still bringing home enough to survive. (single, no kids, cheap apartment)

Well with the Department of Corrections here in NY they have us under the Taylor law so we can't strike. Our union (LOL) hasn't done that great of a job looking out for us. The boob governor wants to give us another 5 days lag pay (We work a week without pay) plus wants 3% knock off our pay, 2 dorms have been closed along with the loss of five outside work crews, within the next week three more dorms will be closing, we found that out through the inmates the Adminastration didn't say a word to us about that. Yet the governor has added 45 more state troopers to his security force at the cost of one hundred million a year. Haven't heard any arguments from the union about any of the added closings so I guess it's gonna go through. So unions any good? Couldn't tell you, we haven't had a good one yet. As far as my Camaro? Starting to think maybe I should hold off awhile.

I tell my kids..."The best time to be looking for a job is while you have a job."

Check the local unemployment rate before you leap, there may be 20 people wanting that pissy job of yours and you'll end up a highly qualified burger flipper.
