AWD is not necessarily ideal for autocross or circuit racing, in that it generally outweighs FWD and RWD competitors with its driveline, making it prone to a lot more understeer. But yes, RWD is the best platform. Unless you're stuck in the snow.

If you get stuck in the snow in a RWD vehicle...just slam it! you'll hit the ground eventually...never done that before, and of course, I'm joking, but I've seen more than my fair share of snow to know it's possible...

Sportscars and musclecars go different ways and people often get confused about the two. Suspension set up is generally more sophisticated in an import sportscar than it would be in a domestic muscle car. a muscle car is kinda useless without gobs of horsepower. whereas a sportscar with too much horsepower is useless. I've always been a sportscar lover....I love the precision steering and tossability of a lightweight car with modest power. A lot of my friends are the opposite...they want something that wil go fast in a straight line. Different strokes, thats all. don't get me wrong, there are crossovers in each category, and obviously, with the right amount of $$$ and time, a musclecar can easily be turned into a sportscar and vice versa. Look at the C6....it outhandles a ton of imports on a circuit track. Domestic sportscar. Look at my Supra....it destroys a ton of muscle cars at the drag strip. Import Muscle. Whatever...it's just a thought.

Man in my junior year of high school there was a huge (well, for us, I'm in NC) snowstorm and we got out a bit early. People were downright scary driving in that stuff. I was ok in my Jeep, but even so. One girl in a Mustang was at the bottom of an icy hill. So what does she do? Steps on it hard and goes up it sideways. So she floors it and puts it 90 degrees sideways before putting it in a ditch.

No, way. that's crazy! I meant like if your in a snowdrift. With enough power, I could see a car just rip through the snow, and find the ground...and grip.
Of course, I would put it in a high gear (going up that hill), and slowly (without all my torque) go up the hill. Or just take another route home. When I was younger, our school bus had to go up a hill, but the stupid-a$$ designers put the apex of the hill right AT the stop sign. Needless to say, over time - the Hill's grade slowly increased, and that year it was soo bad, that in Winter, our bus stopped at the stop sign, and when he went to go, the wheels spun out, and he instantly lost grip, and the bus started to slide down the hill into the cars behind us. Luckily, they were smart, and backed down the Hill, so the driver of the bus hammered it, and found the road again, then he braked, to keep his spot. Slowly, he gassed it, and with minimal torque, he finally got back up the hill. |

but as for tuners being able to out-maneuver us. look at the wheelbase, weight, and the ability to throw the ass end around without having to worry about spinning the tires. lol the main thing a lot of times is a driver mod I drove a Dodge caliber when I was in LA a few weeks back (nice car, but I wouldnt buy one) it would get up to 90 but you were redlining it about just to stay with traffic but Damn was it nimble, Id swerve accross 3-4 lanes doin 90+ and back to get ahead of traffic and she handled like a charm. i want to take my maro out there and scare some mexicons

Let me know when. I go down there quite often, and soon I'll be going further south to Cabo when my dad's company starts up down there.

Is it the suspension they use on the GTO now stock? Because the handling is pretty bad. Or is this to replace that bad handling?

Umm...camaro5 ADD strikes again.
dms, I'm kinda skeptical about your advertising for a product for a platform that doesn't exist yet. Maybe Alleykt can jump in since she's the local GTO expert on your reputation as a company. |

Hmmm… not really too sure about DMS, as I'm in Southern California. My boyfriend lives in the East Bay San Fransisco area and has been to a DMS- sponsored event. His GTO won "Best Looking" (the red one in the shot below).
Here are some threads from my other forum about this event: http://ls2gto.com/forums/showthread....=%22DMS+day%22 http://ls2gto.com/forums/showthread....=%22DMS+day%22 http://ls2gto.com/forums/showthread....=%22DMS+day%22 As far as the GTO's handling, I run my automatic car stock with other modded manual goats on canyon-carving episodes. The posted speed limit in those canyons are 45 - 55 MPH, but we usually run about 20 - 30 over. I have never had a problem keeping up. I have, in fact, gotten some comments like "Your GTO's only stock?" "That's an automatic?" "You're really a girl drivin' that thing?! Is it your boyfriend's/husband's car?" (That last one always makes me laugh! ) I do know of a fellow goat enthusiast who has the pedders and his car is freakin' amazing on those runs!!

Auto, huh? Do you ever wish you had a manual? Just curious.
As for DMS...I didn't respond, but since you brought it up MerF...I'm thinking the same thing...He never answered my question directly. I'm glad that Pedders is going be on the Camaro (not that it'll need it), but How could suspension upgrades be out before the Camaro even comes out? |
