Though now I am curious if the weaker Mustang engines will even compete with the Camaro on the MPG front... anyone got any stats for that?

The '09 Mustang gets 15 city, 22-23 highway. I doubt that the 2010 will do much better.

I'm getting the same with my GT500 on the highway making 650rwhp and 3.73 gears. With bigger displacement, to boot.

Wow, that's some mighty fine backpedaling.Actually no...no it wasn't. That was some pretty lame backpedaling. At least be man enough to admit that you put too much faith in the Oval without any facts. I mean seriously, you expect us to be believe you had a source so solid that 2 weeks ago you KNEW that Ford was going to compete with the Camaro next year, but you didn't know it was canceled until just now? Oh wait, FoMoCo changed their entire strategy overnight. Because that is far more believable.

When I was researching the mustang as training wheels for my eventual Camaro (I've only driven fwd cars until last year and didn't want my first rwd car to be over 400 hp) I found an overall resistance to the IRS setup. It seems people got turned off the IRS with the Cobra, where they tried to squeeze the IRS into the same place as their solid axle to save money. It ran horribly, and now every time you bring up an IRS in a Mustang forum, they say "keep that PoS out of my car" or "not worth the price increase". Ford is simply listening to their fans and building accordingly, that is all.

Ok, answered my own question lol:
V6 V8 Fuel Economy 17 City/26 Hwy With Manual 15 City/23 Hwy With Manual For the 2009 mustang. Though the V6 has the same HP as the 2010 does so I doubt those numbers will be changing. Sooo less power, somewhat similar gas mileage? yeah, Camaro ftw!

Reminds me of the last time I went to the Buick National's in Bowling Green. I was filling up my car at a fuel station not far from the Drury Inn where I was staying and noticed a gorgeous GNX filling on the other side. I struck up a conversation, quickly discovering that this was a real, street driven GNX which gave me enormous respect for the guy, only to be interrupted by part of the local Corvette mafia. Included in the mix were a C5 Z06, a C4 ZR1, and a couple of other 'plain jane' cars. At first I thought they might be as enamored as I was, but that impression was quickly fixed and these guys promptly started trashing the guy and his car....had I not been there I honestly wonder if they might not have gotten just a little physical, they were that obnoxious. I was amazed, two brands of muscle...but both were GM....and here are the Corvette guys effectively eating their own if we are talking about this from a corporate standpoint. More or less the same here. I've addressed this issue already, the motor employed in the 2010 Mustang GT did not change.....the hp rating they applied to it did. Whether the engine genuinely underperformed during SAE certification or if Ford simply decided that the high rating was pushing it too hard I cannot say. It is pretty obvious that your hot button is simply that you don't want to believe me which leaves no time or reasoning for whether or not you actually believe me. Frankly, makes no difference to me either way. There are always people like you on every fansite, I knew i would run into them here just like everywhere else. |

And what exactly was cancelled? The 5.0L was and is on schedule for 2011. |

Wow, You know, seriously...and I am applying this to the flamers in general... feel free to continue on with the ranting at will but for the love of Pete please actually read the posts before doing so. The 5.0L Cammer Ford offers in crate form is effectively a homologation piece and is not the 5.0L slated for 2011MY production and I have never said that it was. In fact, it isn't even close to the same with the basic basis for the engines being different. The 5.0L Cammer is based on an overbored 4.6L while the upcoming 5.0L production piece is based on a destroked, and slightly poked, 5.4L.

Is your main defense here that Ford WAS going to do something different? If Bill tells me he's going to pick two apples and then I tell Tom that Bill is going to pick up two apples, and then Bill comes back with one apple, I was wrong...wrong to assume that Bill would pick two. I said there would be two apples and now there is one apple. The definition of that would be wrong. You were wrong. You could never have been right because Ford picked differently. You were WRONG. End of story. |
