IAT Whipple vs E-Force
Does anyone have IAT numbers for each unit, on a stock set up? I have narrowed my choices down to these two, and I want to know which is going to run cooler in the hot South Florida heat. I am happy with both units as far as performance.
Somewhere down the road, I plan on maybe running meth for insurance, or the Super Chiller.

usmcjlp had a whipple install a while back. Totally amazing IAT numbers. The e-force, or anything else for that matter, would be hard pressed to hang with those numbers.

This was one of my primary reasons for buying. In the desert heat management is very important.

Where is the IAT sensor located on the Whipple setup? Just want to make sure you are getting a true accurate IAT measurement after the heat exchanger in the manifold. I couldn't find where Whipple relocated the sensor. While i hear everyone say they have the best IAT temps but it seems as though these are unsubstantiated claims as they don't have any sensors actually measuring the real IAT temps but rather just the temp of the air at the box. Maggie and Edelbrock both relocate the IAT appropriately so I just want to be sure people are comparing apples to apples. Curious at seeing actual comparative testing data between all supercharger kits

There is no relocation in the Whipple kit. They reuse the stock air box albiet modified and the stock MAF which of course incorporates the IAT. Mine is still in my ADM box.

If the sensor is located before the supercharger, is that really an accurate reading of the charged air? Seems to me you would want the sensor reading the temps after the charger and intercooler. No?

I would assume not, of course even on a NA setup the air is going to be warmer in the intake than at the air box. On the Whipple the intercooler is under the blower in the lower manifold. I would think its kinda hard to put a sensor there, not to mention w/ it being aluminum and attached to the motor just the heat coming off the aluminum would transfer into the sensor and would give a hotter reading than actual air temp inside the manifold. I`m just assuming this of course I have never had a FI setup before so a lot of this is new to me. My main concern was getting the coolest air possible into the supercharger via the ADM race cai ( the cooler the air coming in the cooler it will be after the intercooler does its thing) and having the largest most effecient intercooler of any of the current positive displacement blowers that I have seen.

Yup check out my build thread, my installer is moving mine after SEMA, then he'll retune. If you check out my A/F rations it's very conservative.

How does whipple get away with not having a downstream air temp sensor? Who cares what the temp is before the supercharger? On my gt500 I datalogged yesterday I saw 55 before and 99.8 after the blower. You have to have a downstream temp thats all that matters

I agree. It would seem pointless to monitor the temp in the airbox when it's gonna do nothing but heat up from there. I can't imagine there would be a drastic difference in true IAT's of the various units after charger and intercooler. Hope I'm wrong, cause I really like the Whipple because I have heard numerous times how cool the charge is. And in my opinion it looks better than the E-Force, which is my second choice.

In order to get accurate reading, you must have a grommet style IAT sensor in the proper air stream, standard screw in temp sensors are not as accurate (pickup all the heat from the engine and under hood) and most have different transfer functions. When your in this area with our twin screw, the temps very rarely change and gives almost zero tuning ability since there's almost no swing in temps. Thus, its not required to monitor post SC. The proper system, such as most factory system has an IAT 1 and IAT 2. Most roots systems go 30-60deg F over ambient under boost, most twin screws are at least half this. Ours, with the oversized IC and SC design stays with 10degs of ambient up to 12psi when measured in the air stream. Tunes will be the same, no need to "re-tune". Especially if our IAT table is used as the baseline. Can't compare a GT500 app to the Camaro app. Most GT500's run very high boost with very tight bend deep manifolds which adds heat. |

I challenge you to show a dyno where IAT2 was ambient+10* at 12psi. I also challenge you to show what IAT2 is after the car is hot from driving around.
