I would have split his wig with whatever gun I had. And yeah, it wouldnt have made it that high up.

I'm assuming you have never hunted bear before..........

that very well would of been one of the LAST things I would of done, if I was in that tree stand.

Don't shoot an animal unless you have no alternative. If you have the time to aim a gun at a bear (or other wild animal), chances are your life is not in danger so don't put its life in danger.

If you encounter a black bear, first thing you should do is make sure that it isn't defending something (such as its cubs, a recent kill, or a berry bush). If so, back away slowly. It will probably make a fake charge to intimidate you. Do not turn and run. Just back away slowly and it should leave you alone.

So, the bear isn't protecting anything. You just crossed paths, and its as surprised to see you as you are to see it. Check to see that the bear has a way out that isn't through you. If you're block its path, get out of the way. You're going to get out of the way one way or the other, best you do it on your own initiative rather than the bears ... they tend to be a tad rough.

Alright, you've got a surprised black bear in front of you. It can get away just fine, and it has no reason to stick around. But, it also has no reason to leave either. Give it one. Scare it away. Wave your arms, shout at it, throw sticks, whatever. You're big enough to make them think twice about a fight.

If all that fails and you are attacked, you have only one option: fight back! Do NOT play dead with a black bear. Kick, punch, bite, yell (well, that shouldn't be too hard). If possible, aim for the eyes: no matter how big or tough something is, its eyes are always soft and squishy. Another sensitive area is the nose though its not as effective as the eyes.
