For Detroit...I would say 2012 Malibu for sure, unless it's been delayed. NG Aveo as well (it seems as though that's getting a name change though, press materials constantly refer to it as "a new Chevrolet subcompact").

Possibly the RWD Zeta sedan, but I've heard conflicting rumors on that. Some are saying within a year, others are saying longer.

Aren't rumors fun?

These are the people that seriously don't know how to use it. There are key words that can be searched for. If you search for ABL on the entire site, you are going to get a million hits. If you do an "advanced search" for ABL in the lighting specific section or the DIY section, you are going to get a more refined search. If you get even more advanced and search ABL in the thread title only, you can knock off a chingos load more results. It really is as simple as that. But, people don't know this.

Then, there's just the regular old people who don't have the time to search. They post up a new thread, subscribe to it by instant notification, and go from there hoping they get a bunch of replies.

People get pissed off all the time if you say search. No one should be getting mad at anyone for saying that. I mean, we have a button for it, for goodness sake. And, for those people who do get mad, rather than type out some long winded post expressing their unhappiness with the person using the search button, I'd rather than actually use that time more wisely and do the darn search themselves, copy and past the url, and call it a day...move on.

the lack of respect people have towards each other is one reason I know it's been lost. ie the thread I was in recently where my point didn't come out clear but a huge argument progressed along with name calling. although the argument that ensued was my fault to a big extent the name calling started with the other individual labeled as a senior member. with only 200ish posts. doesn't matter either way. I'll still be around.

And it really does fall upon the guys and girls who have been here for the longest time to help out and police the site. I mean...for real...we all know how it was back then and we all CARED when someone "went off" one someone else. Now, people just look the other way. This might just be the "internet," but I swear to you on everything holy, they would NEVER talk like that to someone's face in person. And, if they did, that would NOT be someone we'd want on our site. Those guys weed themselves out. AND...

LISTEN UP...

THOSE are the guys that COME BACK as a new member and TROLL because they have nothing better to do with their lives than make everyone else's miserable. They are the ones that start the fights and are rude to others. If you want the site to get back to the way it used to be, report the rude posts. We have a set method for kicking off the rude people from the site. Either they roll with it and accept responsibility for their actions or they are gone. You all have seen people get banned before. AND...we, as mods, have searched IP addresses and found these people signing back up with new accounts, and then complain complain complain all the time which raises a stir amongst other members. It's ridiculous. If people only had the same respect for others online as in person....this site would begin to regain that UMPF that it had 3 years ago.

Help us out. If you see someone being a jerk, report them. We already get a lot of reported posts, but we get them ALL.

to the bolded part. that we definitely knew. I really don't think it has anything to do with the for profit side. I think it has to do with the success with car. which with the good comes the bad. hopefully more good. . .

it's funny how people just left you alone with the top up. I wouldn't have. come to NC and I'll bug the hell out of you if your in that car, or a mythical unicorn. . .
The success and love of the car is what brought everyone here. A lot of sponsors originally came here because advertising was free. I had a feeling paid sponsors would be a possibility one day. I just begged Jason not to pimp out the site with banners and ads all over the place. This is not an advertising board. It's a discussion board. So far, it's very much well kept and I am 100% cool with how Jason and Mark have handled it. Everything is in one place.

but one thing holds true....No matter how hard we try, we will never be able to please everyone. Still, we are ALWAYS going to do our best.

Has anyone successfully overcome a fear of flying? Any suggestions?
My brother has a great fear of flying. Sometimes he's excited about going somewhere...up to Chicago last minute to see the Bears, on a trip to Florida to take a cruise... If he's excited about going, it overcomes the flight. But, he says that he feels trapped in the little plane and can't move. He's worried about take offs and landings, and fear of not being in control. The thing you have to remember is that these pilots fly every day...all day... They fly in horrible weather and they fly in great weather. They know what they are doing and are very good at it. If you sit back and think about all the thousands of flights every day....and once in an incredibly long time, something happens. It's almost like the chances of you winning the lottery are better...probably are.

My brother takes anxiety meds. It helps. It also helps to have someone to talk to....to take your mind off of it. Sleeping would be great. If you want to sleep, take some Tylenol PM. HOLY CRAP. 10 minutes and I'm GONE!

But...what it all comes down to is this, YOU WILL BE FINE. You will make it there and make it home NO PROBLEM.

JK, I wouldn't do that to ya...

even still, when I first started flying there were a couple things that really were hard to get used to...

In the end it is about comfort. As an engineer by trade you have the ability to rationalize the physics behind the ability of a plane to fly... But that doesn't mean you are comfortable flying. The challenge for new crewman is to learn to trust the aircraft and to know what it can do safely... from that we build their confidence through repetition. Lots and lots of repetition...

That probably doesn't help you much... but if you can build up your "comfort level" you can improve your ability to cope with your fear...

I've seen kids who've never flown before AT ALL. Who are scared out of their minds the first time you put them in a helo, become some of the most competent crewman we had.

FWIW.

Have a great trip!
anything cool going on???
Dude...an opportunity came up to go to training to be a helicopter pilot for the PD. I didn't have enough time on to do it at the time. But, if the opportunity comes up again, I really want to give it a shot. I'd always wanted to learn and get up there. How cool would it be to be able to do that...ugh...

I was on a commercial flight a few years ago. There was a family seated in the row in front of me from window to window. From the bits of conversation I i heard it was clear it was the first time they had been on a plane. The girl directly in front of me was 10 or 12 years old. She was really excited to be flying to Florida. As the plane started to taxi she became upset, terrified. She started calling across the aisle Daddy, Daddy, Daddy! Daddy was in the center seat with younger children on either side. he tried to reach over to hold her hand but couldn't quite get there.

I got out of my seat, went into the overhead and retrieved my Dad's Bible. I handed it to the young lady and told here what my dad had told me. She held on to the Bible until we landed in Orlando. She gave it back to me. She said thank you. Then she handed me some candy and gave me a hug.

It won't work for everyone, but her fear of flying was put to rest with a small book.

That is AWESOME.

I don't talk religion, I don't preach it, I don't want to make some people feel uneasy. But, I know God is with me all the time...and I say a prayer as well.

In reality thousands of flights occur every day of the week with no issues. Planes want to be in the air flying.
I hate "getting up there" when searching people. But, we have to. I can only imagine how some of those guys feel who have to touch other dudes junk on a daily basis bunches of times each day. Ugh...

I just tell myself that we will all be fine when this happens...because truly, it's precautionary. If you hit an air pocket, the place can drop 30 feet like nothing. That's how people get injured on flights and hit the ceilings. I've flown hundreds of times in my life and while I've been in some pretty hairy storms, some REALLY scary WINDY landings (like nearly going down sideways), nothing has ever happened. We did have a rat found in a plane once before we took off....hahaha...it ate some wires...we had to change planes (in Puerto Rico if I remember correctly). But, it'll all be good.

Hehe thanks.

By the way, the Caprice's console shifter got shoved over to the side a bit more, so a console mount for equipment will fit in there now.

well no kidding! Right now, the big boss man is thinking hard about what vehicle to go to next. Tahoes are #1 on his list for patrol officers. I'm like....SUPER stoked if we get Tahoes. If not, I'd go for the Caprice right off the bat. You think GM caught wind of the whole shifter idea and that's why they did it?

How did they move it? What did they do?

It's been offset to a little box sitting literally on the edge of the console. I think GM heard from enough agencies that they wanted to keep the mounting hardware from the Crown Vics and came up with an easy fix for it.

Looks like if you get Caprices, you'll get the Series II interiors too. With the standard touchscreen display.

Hrm...I really want to see one of them.

What does that display look like? Is it laptop sized or like a DIN radio size and the laptop screen would be different?

Yeah...everyone was upset when they found that out....bout the console shifters.

Basically all new VE Series II Commodores and WM Series II Caprices have this touchscreen display now. Controls radio, HVAC, navigation when equipped, etc.

And it's more or less just the same shifter, just shoved over to the edge of the console in a separate box.

Not bad at all. I wouldn't mind a display like that. Can't think of any problems right off the bat for it. But, if we can't mount the laptops usign that center console (we now use a passenger side floor mount that leans over the center console) then it has to be a split screen laptop...with the screen mounted on the dash and a moveable key board.

Here's a quote from the press release...

Quote:
Input from the Law Enforcement Product Council influenced the design of the center console and shifter location. The center console was designed to better accommodate computers and other equipment, while the shifter was moved 3.5 inches closer to the driver and its shaft was shortened by 1 inch. This final design is more comfortable and enables greater access to the computer and other equipment.
