![]() Plastic should work fine because cold air will still shoot in from where the stock airbox grabs it. This will keep the plastic heat shield from getting too hot and creating head soak. The main problem is the warm air that sneaks in from behind the washer bottle area and filter. I mean, the stock exhaust manifold is RIGHT there, a mere foot or so away so its going to create a lot of warm air that needs to be sealed off. If you notice all the intakes that have proven themselves on the dyno, roto fab, cai, etc all have a heat shield. In reality the stock air box isnt that bad, its really just the filter that restricts. The tubing is 3 inch. |

I always thought the calculation on the average trip MPG was an estimate of what the car COULD get based on how your driving at that second, NOT what your actually getting. Not to mention, like a previous post, if this has altered your MAF settings, it could be miscalculating these readings. And like a previous post, Id watch out for lean settings...have you pulled a plug to see how they are burning?

Op, I'm on your side. I like to see different ideas and such, but you may need to do some more testing. I'm thinking 15 miles isn't far enough. When you have some free time heres what I suggest: pull over at a gas station right off the interstate. Put one filter on. Drive 50 plus miles then turn around. Go back to the same gas station, put your dual elements on and drive the same distance with the same driving habits. Then you will have a good comparison. You will have traveled both directions, not just one because wind blowing or slightly downhill could skew results. Have fun and let us know! I have a feeling you probably will get a couple more mpg out of it because of the lesser restriction. |

Don't you think that GM would have done this already? A massive selling point would have been 35 MPG. Don't think the engineers are stupid. And why would adding a "V" section increase MPG? More air? I see nor do I hear any reason of why this would change anything. No independent testing other than a guy making a boast on a blog. I just saw Jesus on my toast. Believe me because I said so.

You should put a 3rd cone on and get 50 mpg.

Like Doc said I would take it to a shop and have some real testing done to make sure this isn't going to kill your engine over time. If it turns out it won't and the numbers you are seeing are somewhat close to real, then good job. But if you are driving long distances at a time in a V6 I would expect higher milage. Doing simple things like rolling up your windows and cruising between 60-65 mph and drafting can easily improve mgps. I would 1st do what Doc suggested to make sure the engine is safe and then see what happens after a summer of driving. Good luck.

I have been thinking long and hard about this. I trust a lot of your concerns and I may just get and injen intake. Its tuned and I know there are not any problems with it. I took off the second cone last night since I drive so much. And yes mpgs went back down slightly. Also watching the ghost cam progress and once that is done I'll get the tune made for the Intake, exhaust etc.

Doesn't look too expensive. Wonder why someone else doesn't try this , and if it so much BS, flame him down. On the other hand, if it does work as advertised, there'll be another Camaro Savior amongst us.
Thanks for trying something new and different and sharing what you found. |

Direct injection has nothing to do with wether you run rich or lean. that is strictly a delivery method for the fuel, which is administered by the computer, so if the computer is being tricked it can easily run rich or lean depending on the conditions. anyway, this may be what's happening with the dual cone as well. The airflow characteristics inside the tube may be changed by the Y-fitting so it's essentially tricking the MAF readings and adjusting your fuel trims lean. Hence you're hardly using any. There is ALOT more that goes into an efficient air intake design than just making a tube with a filter on it.

PT Barnum said a "Sucker is born every minute." You guys are all massive suckers. You wouldn't believe an advertiser who boasted such things without any proof. Remember all the CAI dyno testing that proved which one was best and even then not everybody agreed with real proof. Maybe just maybe he has a broken system that gives him the wrong numbers. Anybody in the industry who looks at these blogs have any real comment?
