I, too, am bugged by people who mis-badge their car to make it seem like a higher end model. It's just being a poser, is what it is. There's nothing wrong with the V6 Camaros, especially if that's all someone can afford, or wants to afford. I'm not going to bash anyone for driving the V6 (well, maybe I will, but only a little bit), but if you bought the V6, it's almost an issue of disrespect to put SS badges on it. It would be like some poser riding around with Hells Angels back patches on his vest if he wasn't a member of the Hells Angels. Not saying that SS owners (of which I am one) would do the same sort of stuff to an SS poser that the Hells Angels would do to a Hells Angels poser. But enjoy the car you bought. If your car is not an SS, fine, but don't try to pretend it's an SS. Realistically, it doesn't bother me that much at all, mainly because I haven't personally seen a non-SS running around with SS badges. But I do think it's stupid, and makes someone look like an idiot poser.
On a somewhat related note, one of the things that bothers me most is these idiots riding around with fake vents on their fenders, or the fake stick-on hood scoops, both of which you know they bought at Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts or something. That just looks really stupid. Its like saying, "I'm a poser and I want people to think I have a more high end car, one that's been tricked out and has fender vents and a hood scoop, but I want to only spend a few bucks for something that sticks on with 3M tape. Nobody will notice, and I'm sure everyone will think my vents and hood scoop are real." It's just the new fad, at least around here. Instead of jacked up Crown Victorias with 30" wheels, now these idiots ride around with fake fender vents made out of stick on chromed plastic. At least when it was spinners, or the giant 30" rims on the car, they were spending some money and actually modifying the cars. I don't like the style, but I give it a little respect for doing an actual modification to the car. But stick on fender vents? That's just garbage that makes your car look stupid and trashy. You're not fooling anyone with your fake hood scoop, either, especially when one side comes loose and starts flapping in the wind as you drive down the highway (yes I have personally seen that). |

[QUOTE=mercedestech;3345202]Do any other SS owners get upset when they see V6 Camaro's tooling around with SS badges on them? I know it's petty, but why the hell would anyone do that? I'm in Myrtle Beach on Vacation, and have seen two seperate V6's running around down here badged as an SS. Both were RS package cars. I pulled up behind a yellow w/black ralley's my first night here, and noticed the exhaust tips right away as not being quite right. As I pulled up beside it...no Brembo brakes...and upfront no mail slot. But it did have red front and rear SS badges
I use to see this same type of thing on C5 Corvettes....non Z06's with the "Z06" emblems on the fenders and fake rear brake ducts. People have done this stuff for years. I remember way back looking at a for sale 1970 Z/28 Camaro only to find out it was a 307 engined base Camaro with the emblems installed.

Again, not trying to take anything away from the V6.....just the owners who badge them as an SS. I'm sure there are V6 camaro's out there that are faster than my SS (or close to it)...that's not the point. A v6 Camaro making a million horsepower is still not an SS. Can a V6 be made to perform as well as and even better than an SS? Sure. Will it be an SS when it gets to that point...NO. Like I said it really doesn't matter, and I can see how this thread is going to be taken off track by people like you in a hurry. Probably should have known better.

Don't waste your energy on people who do not appreciate the Camaro. LS, LT, or SS, these cars mean something to those who truly understand the heritage of this car. To badge it something that it's not only shows lack of understanding. Pity the poser, don't let it get to you because they don't take pride in what they own.

this topic reminds me of when i was shopping around for a first gen camaro, and you would see '69 z 28 clone' inline 6 automatic transmission (real z28's in 69 were equipped only in manual) and its just like why? now i have a v6 so bash me if you please but quite frankly i dont care. i bought what i preferred, and for you bashers out there this is the motto i go by : "why bash on another camaro, regardless of trim when there are mustang/challenger owners out there who wish they had these camaros"

I should also mention that this week was the first time I have seen this in person (on a Camaro), and to my surprise I have now seen two in one week. I work on Mercedes Vehicles everyday that are mis badged as V12's or AMG models and that is probably where the dislike for it stems from. Just kinda caught me off gaurd to see someone do it to a Camaro and thought I would share. Neither were local Vehicles from South Carolina, just down here on vacation like me I guess.

Yeah! If you want fake side vents/gills and fake hood/front bumper scoops/mail slots make sure they are built into the car from the factory like out SS Camaros! I'm just messing with ya. I know exactly what you are talking about. I see all these crap fake 07 Escalade stick on side vents on cars and most of the time they are upside down.

Having said that, any jokes I make against V6 drivers, it's all just jokes. I am definitely of the mind set that ALL Camaros are awesome cars. Some may be V6, some may be V8, some stock, some highly modified, but it's all good. Whatever someone wants, or can afford for themselves, you know, its their car. If they're happy with it, that's all that matters. I don't REALLY bash on V6 owners, I just goof about it as a joke. Personally, I think the V6 Camaros are definitely awesome machines. That's a lot of power compared to most cars you see on the street, regardless of the number of cylinders. I've got a buddy with a 98 Mustang GT, and besides ripping on him in general for having a Mustang, I also rip on him that the Gen 5 Camaros in the V6 will smoke the crap out of his V8 Mustang. Granted, he's got a 12 year old car, so it's understandable, but the point is, even as a V6, these 5th Gen Camaros are awesome. I got nothin' but love for all Camaro owners. Except those idiots who rip the fenders out and put 30" wheels under them. F*%! those guys. That's just stupid. |

mmmm.... Does this apply to my fathers car as well? He's got a '72 chevelle. It's not an SS, but it's badged as one. It also has a big block 502 from GMPP, and a 4 speed muncie, with a 12 bolt rear. Is it stupid that it's badged as an SS?
I think it's fine if you have the performance to back up the badging, but if you have a car with lower performance than what you are advertising it as, there is a problem. |

Why even put a fake intake scoop on there? As far as the gill slits, there was another thread where people were discussing it. I personally like them, because it's a throw-back to the 1st Gen styling. I would be happier if they were real, of course, but I don't personally feel like that cheapens the car any, because they were styling it after the 1st Gen Camaros. However, the mailslot, to me, absolutely cheapens the car, and I think it's a little ridiculous. Anyway, I guess the point (which I think you seem to agree with me on) is that it's one thing for the fake gills/scoops if it came from the factory that way, and it's an entirely different thing to buy some plastic from the auto parts store and stick it on to pretend you have a scoop/vent/whatever. I still think it's funny when I replay it back in my mind, and picture the guy's flapping fake hood scoop. I think it was on a Nissan Sentra or something. Just flapping away in the breeze while he drove down the highway.
