Good choice on the Focals but they do prefer the juice to get the best from them. I've got a set of KPSs and a Zapco amp waiting to be installed in something, anything. Hmmm.

Yes you're hearing a mismatch of efficiency. I had a Hertz HSK 165, similar quality, and listened to one side in first. I gaurantee your highs are 10 times better but you don't hear it. Your factory BA are thin near paper speakers with no crossover. Do the pair and then throw in a CD. If you think Focals sound worse than stock then you must be listening to MP3s at high compression and you're finally hearing what garbage sounds like clearly
![]() You'll be doing an amp soon. Also, with those speakers set your EQ back to 0 for hi, mid and lo.

Icefsh,others;
I am getting ready to upgrade my factory BA. In preparing for that I have investigated the OE stuff. On the factory stereo wiring diagram, the wires coming from the BA amp to the front speakers seem to be woofer and tweeter- specific, so it is possible you are inputting already crossed-over signals to the Focals, or that the signals are otherwise degrading. Those Focals are very good speakers; the BA amp can't possibly do them justice. HTH Bill |

You will like the PDX amp. But I'm biased - I've got 6 PDX's in my various cars....Good luck

other then that once you get the focals in and running you will love them. just hope you know how to do the tunning, cause you can also tune the speakers with the crossover on how you wire it up and i think that model has a switch to. in my car i put the hertz high energy xls in my front doors. and man do they sound awesome |

You know, I can't say in 25 years of car (or home) audio, I've heard someone recommend breaking in speakers...??? ok... Won't argue, but I'm not sure what breaks in with a wiring/coil assembly. It's probably still good advice, though, so people don't immediately start damaging their system by driving it into distortion.
I checked the front speakers. I think you were reading the rears schematics. The fronts at the plugs for the tweeter and mid are the same color coding, and have a 0 (zero) ohm resistance between them. It's the same wire. The rears do have 3 wires to each of the near-6X9s. I listened to the High Energy HSK next to the HSK XLs. The mids hit almost the same, unless you have a lot of power. If you're running 150+ RMS, go XL. If you're staying well under, Hi Energy HSK will sound the same and save you about $200. I can't turn the gain up very much on my PPI A404, and so I might kick my HSKs to the rear and then get the HSK XLs for the door. The tweeter is larger I think, so it's not 100% remove and replace.

Break in period is mainly for woofers. The parameters do ever so slightly change as the suspension loosens up.. As far as tuning your system goes, I've always done this by ear (Although I do still have a 1/3 octave anaylizer). Crossover points should be pretty straight forward if you are going to use the included passive one. All you'll need to do is find good point for your sub and again I recommend doing this by ear cause it's your system and you need to be the one who is satisfied..
