Install was fairly simple, I have a slight mis-alignment issue that I will hopefully get fixed tonight after work. I then let it idle for about 20 minutes, then turned it off and on again. I drove about 10 minutes around town stop and go, then about 20 cruising on a blacktop, another 10 minutes around town. I then went back to the blacktop for some WOT fun. What surprised me the most was loudness of the intake. I'm sure it’s a combination of actually changing the exhaust note as well as noise of sucking air in through the intake. But around 5-7k the overall car is a lot louder, just with the stock exhaust. I think I’m going to put some MRT V2s on in a couple months and this thing is going to sound like a beast. From a performance standpoint I am pretty pleased with the results. Pretty simply put, when you hit the gas, it goes. No real lag in the lower rpms like with the stock intake. It also has quite a bit more pull in 6th gear now, but you can by no means hammer it at 60 expecting it to take off. I will probably still drop it down to 4th for spirited freeway passing, 3rd if I’m feeling ornery. At one point I was putting around in 1st, blipped the throttle and chirped the tires. I’ve got about 50 miles total on it so far, so I’m hoping as I put more miles on it, the intake will settle in (fuel trim) and it will just keep getting better and better. Weather permitting I’m going to take it to my launching pad tonight and do some unofficial 0-60 runs with it. I will probably end up driving it about 400 miles this coming weekend, but most of those will be freeway miles.

I'm a pretty hard guy to please. Mostly just with the fitment issues. There was also another small issue that popped up, but I'm 99% it was a pre-existing condition. Also, I'm not really set on the exhaust/intake sound at very high rpms, almost seems to make things vibrate in the cab. A lot of the guys on here said there was a night and day difference between this intake and stock airbox. While I do notice a difference as described in the above post, I wouldn't necessarily call it night and day. Now give me 1000 miles and I'll switch back to the stock airbox for a week and see if that is still the same answer.

Put a couplehundred miles on it. Then switch. You will feel the difference pretty dramatically even after the "reconfiguration to stock adjustment period" .I hope my new unit arrives soon - returning to stock has been a bummer lol

Alright. I'll probably pass on the 0-60 launchs then tonight, and just do some more city stop and go driving instead. I'm heading to my parents house after work tomorrow, then a wedding on Saturday. It will be about a 400 mile round trip with about 75% being interstate driving. I'll probably bounce around the top three gears like I did breaking in the engine.
Just wanted to give everybody an honest first impression on the intake. Just a few minor things that didn't make it quite perfect for me. I really do enjoy the intake so far though

In short, I felt a dramatic difference going from the Airaid to the VR. It was light night and day, just like it was like night and day between the Airaid V1 tube and their V2 tube, however the jump from the Airaid V2 to this VR is a greater response. I was optimistic and being of 54yrs of age and not easily led to the water for a drink, I watched, listened and had sidebar PM's with Rolnslo to get his impressions all through the production and testing. I sounded like something I really needed to look into at the end of the day. When the rubber meets the road, this was a good investment for me at $318 or whatever it was, short of $350 for sure. I'm happy with it and it continues to impress me with each drive. Even in this hot, humid heat we've had here in Indy, this thing continues to impress me. Now I don't do drag strips though I may on Lingenfelter Performance day on July 17th after our Camaro Rally at Hare Chevrolet in which they will attend on the 16th, and we won't have our Dyno Day again until October, so the numbers on mine won't be in but unless you have a fan that can be upfront moving some serious air into the grill, I'm not sure you'll get the true read on this intake. Just saying, but I love it and if I had to do it all over again, I would be dead on this. I'm already recommending it to a friend who is ordering a 2012 RS now.

Ya, I've got to take the car in for some warranty work next week. I'm going to put the stock intake on just to be safe. By that time I should have about 600 miles on the VR. Should be a good comparison by then since I will be somewhat used to the VR.

![]() Guess what UPS just dropped off? Well over a year ago I read about the Vararam cai being developed for the V8 Camaro. Called and asked if a V6 is in the making and they confirmed. I got impatient a few times and almost got the injen but held off for Vararam. Jumped in on the group buy April 18, 2011. No more waiting! Got mine! |
