Yeah they have more important things to deal with.. Just, with a glance a cop can notice missing front plates. With just a glance.. they can't notice if someone has no insurance or a license. :\

If its a nice car, I think most officers understand anyways so its not something I would be too concerned with.

ill probably prop mine up in the front window. there is a cop in my town that just loves to pull me over because of my dad and uncles driving some 30 years ago. Ive never gotten a ticket from him unless it was warranted but its still a pain in the you know what to get pulled over just to make sure i am doing everything up to the legal standards.

Yeah, but in the time it takes them to pull you over and issue the citation, imagine what else they can do in the meantime. Every second they're pulled over on the side of the highway with someone who doesn't have a front license plate is a second they aren't cruising looking for drunk drivers and the like.

How about all the cars that pull into Gas stations that do gas runs or rob the cashiers...usually the pull in face first or have to drive by one camera or another. We need to capture that plate.

And...to the member who said they were going to put the plate up in the front windshied, that won't save you from getting a ticket. Technically, the front plate must be on the furthest point of the front end of the vehicle.

Actually Jeff....that insurance thing is going to change REAL soon here in Texas. The DMV is going to be adding INS info to all the registrations on vehicles. That means...we can run your plate and automatically find out if you have INS or not.

And...to the member who said they were going to put the plate up in the front windshied, that won't save you from getting a ticket. Technically, the front plate must be on the furthest point of the front end of the vehicle.

Sweet ride I hope you don't have to get rid of it to buy the new one.

My Regal didn't have a place for a front plate so I never put it on. In 6 years I have never been stopped for not displaying a front plate (knock on wood) and the only time I have been stopped in that car it was for expired inspection . The officer asked where my front plate was and I told her I had it at home because I didn't want to drill holes in the front bumper and she didn't say anything else about it. I am not to worried about it, I doubt any serious trouble will come of not displaying it.

I won't put my plate on until it becomes an issue. :P Until I get a warning for it, I just won't be putting it on.

In a town that is an hour into NJ from PA where 75% or more of the license plates driving around are PA (I've also seen 4 or 5 other states represented to a lesser degree) it's quite easy knowing who is unregistered/uninsured and who isn't...

You could drive down almost any side street and run all the tag #'s and probably tow off 80% of them for being unregistered/insured.

(If you live in NJ you should have NJ tags, period.)

As for 'racial profiling' that's easy enough to remedy. Run EVERYONE'S tag #'s, not just the PA tags. Those who have done nothing wrong have nothing to worry about. A friend of mine has a nephew in the local police department, and he's said that most of the cops just don't want to have to deal with all the paperwork involved when you pull over an illegal and take their car away.

I have known many many people to have their car hit by an illegal not only driving around, but parked at the curb in front of their house. In every case they run, or, if the car doesn't work any longer, hop out of the car and scurry off like a bunch of cockroaches. Then their's my friend Jennifer. Her grandmother had JUST attended the funeral of a family member. She drove home with another family member, parked at the curb in front of her home, got out of the car and was struck and killed by a drunk uninsured/unlicensed illegal. He, again, jumped out of the car and ran. Luckily some people caught him and held him until police could arrive.

I (and most people I know) have absolutely no sympathy for illegals. Round 'em all up, send 'em all home. Build a wall, and shoot any that try to sneak over...

Nah, I won't really be much concerned with the lack of a front plate on mine. Only when I have to go thru inspection, and I'm sure I can rig something up to hold it on for that 30 mins or so. LOL

I'm going to be making custom brackets to mount the plate up front, but in a configuration that doesn't harm the bumper. Its going to mount underneath or behind the bumper and wrap around to hold the plate. Hopefully I can make it fold-away so I can simply flip a switch to hide it when I'm at a car show or something.

But yes, its horrible how you have to ruin the good looks of a car with a stupid front plate.

Hah! Don't get me started! Here in Ontario, a front plate is required as well. I made sure to have my 98 SS delivered to me without a front plate bracket and drove around for 6 years without so much as being pulled over for a warning.
Then all of a sudden, I'm given 3 tickets in 2 years - all in jurisdictions outside of Toronto!
The good news is that I've been fortunate enough to beat all of them!
The first one, I waited until the last possible day and got the case remanded. The cop didn't show on the second date - case thrown out!
After receiving the second ticket, I opted for what is called a "First Hearing". This is when you go to speak to a J.P. and play "Let's Make a Deal" - the idea being to clear the logjam of court cases. I showed up with "before and after" pics, using velcro tape to hold the SLP licence plate bracket in place long enough to take a picture. The J.P. dismissed the case when he saw that I had "remedied" the situation!
At this point, I figured I'd better cave and put a front plate on the car, so I bolted it to the front air dam under the front of the car, thinking this would solve the issue of getting tickets, while still keeping the clean look of an unobstructed SLP SS grille. Big joke... I'm driving thru a speed trap one day (knowing it's there, 'cuz it always is) and some lady whips by me in a Pathfinder, but the cop pulls me over instead! when he comes up to my window, I ask him why he pulled me over instead of the Pathfinder. He says, "I couldn't read your licence plate." So I start with a sob story about how it got knocked off in a parking and I've ordered a new licence plate bracket... but the car is no longer in production... and the part is back-ordered... yadda yadda... Anyway, he takes my info back to the cruiser and returns about 10 min later, handing me a ticket for for having an "obstructed front licence plate" and says to me, "You had a ticket for this last year and I don't believe it takes that long to get your part in."
I replied, "I wasn't convicted - the ticket was thrown out." The cops simply says, "I don't care." and walks away.
At least I beat that one too using the "before and after picture" strategy.
At this point, I must admit to having the SLP bracket installed on the car in order to display a front plate. At least the whole thing is easily removed simply by unscrewing 2 bolts. I figure I'd better not push my luck any further!!

garfin, just like the officer told you, he found that you already had been written a citation earlier. Personally, I woulnd't push it either. I tell ya, when I was younger, I got stopped all the time for speeding. No one ever wrote me tickets. I was amazed. But, I finally got one. I got cut a few brakes after that, but eventually got another ticket for speeding. Then, got another...and another. But, I found I wasn't getting any more warnings. Hmmmm.... 14 speeding tickets later...and a lot of money out of pocket, I finally calmed down. My point is...if you already got two tickets, there won't be a question as to whether or not the next officer will write you one. They will just do it out of principle. A history of driving infractions actually does play a role in writing tickets for officers.

Hey man.... from Vancouver too..... I think I'm gunna do the same as well... until I dont get a warning for it....not putting it on either.... although the new system ICBC has put in place beginning this year does make yah think twice about getting a ticket for something stupid as a license plate, lol.

I figure you can go for a while without having it be an issue, unless you're unlucky enough to run across a really uptight cop right away. But once it becomes an issue, just accept it and bolt a plate on. Its not worth throwing away a little good will for good behavior over, you know? Like Tag said, many cops will go easy and give you a break if you have a good record, so you don't want to ruin that over something as minor (though irritating) as a license plate infraction.
