Agreed, it isn't easy. I assume you have done tons of research and decision making when it comes to where to spend the money and have the results to show it. That is impressive in my book.

All I have is a dyno number... doesn't mean I don't want to take it to a track, but like others have said, it's easier to get the car on a dyno than on a track.

Not directed at anyone but this is my opinion:
Its just as bad to think your self worth or your car is measurable by a time slip as it is on a dyno. Life isn't measured in 1/4 mile increments or while strapped to a barrel. Or the number of mods in your signature is a competition or bragging rights. Or the mount of money you did or didn't sink into a car.

I build my car for me and my own personal enjoyment and use. I could care less what other people think of how it looks or how fast it is. The only measurement that matters to me is how big of a smile I have when I drive it. The rest is just someone elses insecurities or inferiority complex and their attempt to project it on me or my posessions. I don't have any friends that think life/possessions are a competition; they're not my kind of people.

track time can not be used to compare car performance before and after the change. It involves a human. Environment (like oxygen levels, dry/wet/temperature ) will be part of it too, so you can accurately compare with others.

You want to know mesurable change from installing new part, know RWHP before and after.

You want to barg about YOUR ability to drive YOUR car, talk Track times.

Surely you mean air density. Normal air is 20.5% oxygen at any altitude or density. At high altitude, it is still the same percentage, there is just less air compressed into a cubic foot. Didn't mean to call you surely!

This. Dyno numbers take skill out of the equation. Never mind that you can't drive your own car...

Not everyone goes to the track, but still want big power to have fun with. Having a HP goal doesn't hurt.

I have to agree.....To each their own.

If I thought my self worth, or my financial worth was soley judged on a my car, I damn sure wouldn't be driving a crapped out 4Runner as my daily driver. I mod my car the way I want it sound, drive, and look. I have several mods and have had my car on the dyno several times. Never bothered to register the exact HP numbers. Besides, when someone asks I sell it short and say about 450. Maybe from now on I will add to my approximate number and people will think of me as more manly, or a better provider. I will admit, the adrenaline rush I get when I do race my car far exceeds the one I get watching it spin a couple rollers.

I am still trying to mod the driver!! At a svelte 265 lbs I am at a BIG disadvantage either on the track or the road. And there is nothing smooth about me strapping this 420ish RWHP car on.

Driving a 1000hp car on the street is alot more fun than most can imagine. You get the thrill of setting off car alarms in parking lots and watching other drivers afraid to look at you at the light.

What it comes down to is different strokes for different folks. We all have fun in our different ways of enjoying our camaro's and having C5 to go to and meet friends!

i used to think it was funny too. then the first time i drove my car down the track with it sc'ed.... i didnt find it funny. it's VERY hard to control a car that is spinning drag radials at 1000'. Yes many times a car with a lot less power will get a better time. then some might say"well sure you can get that time, all you do is point it and press the pedal".

im the highest rwhp at my shop, but not even close to being the fastest and im at the track atleast 2x a month. if i wanted track times i would have bought an automatic.......then thats a whole new topic there.

i say who cares as long as its what the owner wants?
