blown head gasket repair

Found a 1997 camaro z28 for sale i really like. Seller is asking 2k but it has a blown head gasket. From doing some research I think it will cost a little over $200 for parts. Idea on how much for an install?

if it was driven a while with the blown head gasket the motor probably is toasty and needs a rebuild. if anything have a mechanic look at it and see what condition the inside of the motor is in before buying it. how many miles are on it?

couldn't agree more, check the manifold gaskets as well.. if the dex cool coolant been in the car too long what could have happend is it became acid like, therefore eating away the gaskets to the manifold and head gasket, causing the car to over heat. I suggest starting from the radiator and go through all the way to the heads.. Check the oil and the oil input arm (whatever you pour the oil into) if you see milky like stuff along the walls its more of an issue with the motor than just the gasket, not worth rebuild imo unless body and trans is beautiful..

Usually on the LT1 if the head gasket blew the head will need surfaced and the deck checked as well.
