AC Graphic on Head Unit...

I've searched but couldn't find any info, but that could be me using the completely wrong phrases!

I've got a 2011 2SS Camaro.
My buddy just got a 2012 1LT as a loan car. (His Firebird just got rearended.)

Anyways, he drove today at lunch, turned up and down the heat controls and a graphic showed on the display on the head unit, showing the fan speed and a little chap with air blowing on him!

I am thinking that the head unit in the 2012's aren't really all that different to the 2011's and wondered if there is a flash available that allows those graphics to be shown on the 2011 models, or are they drastically different head units?

Just asking out of curiosity.

And apologies in advance if this has been asked before.

the AC graphics are new for the 2012's, I don't really know if the 11's or 10's can be upgraded, your dealer could probably tell you

That's what I was thinking that it's more than likely just a software update. Might have to contact my dealer and find out what the situation is!

Well, I got in touch with my contact at my local dealer and he said that the updates to the radio are VIN specific, so I am assuming that I wouldn't be able to go into the dealer and ask for a flash to update my 2011 head unit to act like a 2012 head unit.
