ok, let me try and get this across to y'all in the easiest way I can... just because you are related to your parents does not mean that you are your parents, right? the same can be applied to all generations of small block GM engines.
just because the LS2, LS7, LSA, LS9, L76, L92, L98, LS4, etc. are all on the GenIV architecture does NOT make them the same block... it makes the same block DESIGN... do you seriously want to tell me that the FRONT WHEEL DRIVE LS4 engine has the same block as the dry sump LS7 engine? I highly doubt that, folks... it might LOOK the same, and it might have the same dimensions, but the sleeves are different, the bore is different and the actual short block is NOT the same. jeebus, its hard to get things across to people who think they know everything.

ok... ALL THE FREAKIN BLOCKS ARE CAST FROM THE SAME MOULD...is that easier to understand...the ls4 is excluded btw ...you change dimensions of sleeves and such after to suit your application hence to BORE OUT...or STROKE

I have a VERY good grasp of genetics and while I am very much like my father, I am NOT my father and you are not YOUR father... if you occupied the same space in the universe that your father did, you WOULD be your father, but since you do not, you are not your father... I have emphasized and italicized the portion of your post that proves that I am right... so lets not get into a discussion about genetics because this is not a forum about that. and no, they are not cast from the same mold... almost every one of them has a different casting number and, therefore, they are not cast from the same mold otherwise they would have the same casting number... so you, sir, are W-R-O-N-G. end of story.

As far as there being different blocks, I don't know enough about the specific differences to really comment. 3whiterag would be able to clear things up. As a few others would too

In humans dont be fooled by that 99% similar stuff, thats just for the genome as a whole, ie we all have legs, arms, a head, get affected by the same diseases, our organs are the same, that 1% diff makes up hight, weight speed, strength, colour, all morphology (feature size, ie fingers, feet ect), eye and hair colour, how hairy we are, and what we inherit from out parrents anyways, why are we talking about genetics on a car forum again....... ![]() i think we can all agree that genetics is a bad analogy for relatedness between LS series engines......let us consult Wikipedia for info on that front |

I'm not sure the analogy is completely invalid. The Gen IV engines all share the same basic 'DNA' that is the engine block. But I think we need to have someone come in who knows all the blocks inside and out tell us if they are the same or not, and say that 'this, that, and the other thing are different between L%$ and L^#, and so no they are not the same'
