206mph on public road in traffic... reached after 1minute on the A5.... no proving ground needed no helmet or race suit or roll cage... do not make easy things complicate

Oh and btw... here in Germany topspeed is everything that matter... no one cares here about 1/4mile times... I let you win 0.5s at a red traffic light if I can own you several minutes because my car runs 20km/h faster than your car during distance driving from point a to b ... highspeed driving is long time adrenalin rush ... not a 12s rush
Yeah, that's great. But here in America, where the Camaro is built and manufactured, we DO care about quarter miles times. We drag race here. Its part of our car culture. Dont try and make yourself sound superior because you like to drive at insane speeds with no safety equipment. Roll cages and helmets dont make easy things complicated, they make complicated things safer. And the proving ground is a place to do it in a closed environment away from other traffic (which was also a stupid thing to do on the Audobahn) and on a road surface that is made and maintained for those speeds.

The driver is crazy brave

They should mention what RPM and what gear they were in at 202 mph.

my two cents

Why it took so much more hp to go 200..
The increase in drag is exponential. The 1000hp Veyron requires only 250hp to achieve 150mph but needs the remaining 750 to go only 100mph more! The force of the air acting on a car at this speed can not be overstated.

Why the GT500 may only need 650hp to achieve 200…
When trying to go this fast you have to ask yourself how safe do I want to be. The ZL1 has a lot of downforce and air management that allows for a very stable car even in 25mph crosswinds. the downside to downforce is more drag. The GT500 maybe going 200mph but also may have its front wheels barely touching the ground! Does anyone know how many times you would rollover before coming to a rest after loosing control at that speed?

GT500 VS. ZL1..
Both these cars are amazing and I can't wait for a side-by-side comparison! The GT500 is lighter and has more horsepower, but the ZL1 has a better chassis, suspension, and aerodynamics. I think if you want to go drag racing in stock form than get a Shelby, if you want to go road racing in stock form than get a Z! Oh, and one more thing, you would run out of tires and competitors before anything would break on your base factory stock ZL1

Also this article::http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97479 ::says that the SS reached 174.4 mph after the top speed limiter was removed. So if the SS will do that, why is it so hard for the ZL1 (with another 154 HP) to go just another 25.6 mph?? Is it gearing? What? This does'nt make sense to me.
This is why it takes so much more horsepower just to go little bit faster, the relationship is not linear but exponential.

Speak for yourself man, there are plenty of guys here in Germany that care about 1/4 mile times, and there are plenty of places to drag race here too if you didn't already know about them.

332 kph on the A5 in traffic is stupid when there are trucks traveling 100 kph. All it takes is some Skoda Fabia trying to pass the truck at 120 kph, to pull out in front of you without looking in their rear view mirror before they move into the left lane...

You're acting as if this ZL1 was stock. The Shelby obviously has better aero if it can hit 200 in stock form. This is a cool thing by LPE but it took them a whole day with their tuner car on a private track to accomplish.

Why did GM put monotube shocks on the 1LE, the direct Boss competitor if the Mag suspension is worlds better?

He doesn't speak for Germans or Germany, but rather himself.

There is drag racing here, I know I go to several places every year, and there are no shortage of Germans there ha ha.

Guys like him are the reason they put up "Runter vom Gas" signs along the autobahns here in Germany.

They wanted the cheapo version to permit people who would normally aspire to a Boss be able to afford the ILE, because that's exactly what they will do. Given the two as a choice..... kind of like you prefer to be here on Camaro5 instead of the SVT forum. It's just the preferable choice! "You're Welcome!"

I hear you on that! What would a squirrel do hitting the grill at that speed? Just wondering! Or a piece of rubber from a blow tire? Certainly not time to react properly. The guy didn't even have on a helmet. Live dangerously I guess.

So they would rather be cheap and lose instead of put a few extra $ and win?

I guess that's one way to go.

It's cheaper than a ZL1, and its a WIN vs Boss!! Not a lose. Your negativity show you are somewhat jealous. Sorry you feel that way! Why don't you just trade in your GT for a 1LE? You will be greatly impressed. And, imagine the PERMAGRIN you will then be able to wear instead of a frown! It's the way to go!

So where is it written that the Camaro has more down force and is more aerodynamic than the 2013 GT500? I haven't seen this. Can someone point me to the article?

The ZL1 has more aero downforce, it helps on high speed corners but hurts top end speed. Just b'c a shelby can hit 200 stock doesn't mean it has better aero and downforce that helps grip.

I'm sure they could have got a higher top speed in the ZL1 if they take downforce back out of the car. But I'd rather be planted solid at 184 than floaty as hell at 195.
