Here is an interesting reply from BREMBO in regards to the weights:
Reply from Jack Gerkin at Brembo Brakes Not sure, but it’s my understanding that all future cars will not have the weights on them. Enjoy your vehicle. From what I’ve read it’s a gas. From: Jack Gerken <Jack@Gerken.org> Subject: Re: Brembo Calipers with weights George, We are very aware of the situation but are forwarding people to GM’s web site who prefer to answer the question for you. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19161 Jack Gerken Public Relations Consultant Brembo North America 714-965-3037 (Office) 714-965-2338 (Fax) 714-436-9900 (Cell) Jack@Gerken.org |

Is he saying the problem is fixed, or Brembo wont be the brakes on future cars.

the problem has been identified and a fix is in the works. Brembos will still be the stock brakes on the v-8s. some of the early cars off the line will continue to have them, but there should be a replacement sent out to have calipers w/o the weights.

Awesome sig, Spike.......and you'll never know what hit ya buddy! BTW, thought I saw G. Norris the other day, but it was just a delusion.
I'm hopin' for that redesigned caliper on my car, but I think the chances are slim; it's too soon.

Camaro lead brake weights
I don't know if this has been brought up or not, or if the problem has been fixed. Apparently, due to an engineering goof by GM, the Camaro brake Calipers have required layers of lead weights glued on to balance them and avoid squeaking. For those of you with your Camaros already delivered, can you confirm this? Has the problem been solved? WTF

The first batch of cars had the weights on them so it has been well documented here. I believe the fix has been implemented already, but I'm only basing that off the fact that noone who's taken delivery lately has mentioned that they have the weights.

Where in Westchester are you?.......I am in Yorktown.
This has been posted in a few threads. It is a bad engineering job by Brembro, that GM had to compensate for. I was told by a GM Engineer (to remain nameless), that Brembro is reworking the Front Calipers for future models. First model year will be stuck with the weights. I personally did not want to wait for my Camaro, so I plan on swapping out the front Calipers when they release them on the next model, at my own cost if necessary. It was either that or do not offer these calipers, since they still work the same with the weights they went this route to get the cars built.

if you have them you better save them. 30 years from now when being judged for restoration you will get hit if you dont have the " correct " lead weights on your calibers.

Hopefully they figured out a way to discretely put the lead weights on. Maybe with a weighted nut or something, as opposed to this crap.
