I purchased the exact same module. Installed in my 2011. Same as you, bluetooth works perfectly but the OnStar light is red. I did not press the blue button because I am not interested in OnStar. Prior to installing this module I cancelled OnStar and my light was extinguished on my old (non-bluetooth) module. I am not interested in OnStar but I would like to extinguish the red light, if anyone knows how.

Then something is wrong. It should still be able to call them, even if the box isn't associated with your car.

I thought I would give my experience with swapping the VCIM (Onstar/Bluetooth) module.

My VCIM box is out of a 2011 Buick LaCrosse, part number 22739886. Stock part number was 22739885. The only difference between the two VCIM's is the 886 has bluetooth. I installed it and everything worked immediately when I replaced my stock non bluetooth VCIM. I decided I would like to have the steering wheel controls added, so I bought the buttons and wiring from the dealership and went in to have them installed and then the body control module reprogrammed to turn on the controls.

Should have been a half hour job max...except when the dealer went into the BCM to turn on the steering wheel controls , my VCIM number didn't match what was in the BCM. Well that led to a phone call from my dealer to GM and three hours later and a $200 bill they had it working. WORD OF CAUTION for anyone who has done the VCIM swap...Do not take it to the dealer to have anything stereo/bluetooth/etc releated repaired without first putting the stock VCIM back in or be prepared to pay dearly for it. For those wanting to add steerign wheel controls and have the body control module reprogrammed for them, do this ONLY with your stock VCIM installed.

Wait, the $200 dollars was "punishment" for not having the stock box or was it because it took 3 hours to complete the work?

Three hours labor and a $50 service fee for GM to reprogram it.

Oohhhhhhh! Thanks for that little tidbit of a money saving heads up. I'm getting ready to to swap the 886 VCIM in my wife's LS before getting the wheel controls flashed.

What part of that was 3 hours labor?

$50 for the phone call, $120 or something for labor and then a $12 or something for a standard shop/disposal type thing and then tax.

It's a 30 minute job tops even installing the switches. I put a GT steering wheel on my duaghters G5 and the same shop charged me $40 to reprogram the BCM to turn on the cruise control on the steering wheel. Her stereo controls worked plug and play.

If I had it all to do over again, I'd have put the steering wheel controls in and had them programmed then went home and put the VCIM in.

I did a search and found this thread that may be worth a read. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73511

It appears maybe the steering wheel controls require this call to tech for the VCIM number regardless if the VCIM is replaced.
