Someone please tell me that they plan on releasing TWO V8 versions like the Challenger. Some of us who aren't made of money, and are under 25, would still like to get our hands on a V8 without having to pay $40k. I'm hoping for a Z28 (to compete with the Challenger R/T and Mustang GT) and an SS version (to compete with the SRT8 and GT500).
Any thoughts on this? I've even read that they plan on having two V6 models, so that worries me. I understand that the V6 will be great, and at 300hp, it already competes with the Mustang GT, but... I don't get chills when a V6 with a dual exhaust roars by me in traffic. The more I think about it, if GM doesn't offer a V8 version less than the top of the line model, I might have to start looking at Challenger R/T's... and as your granddad may say before he raises his hand, "this is going to hurt me a lot more than it's going to hurt you."

But there will be a base-model V8. It'll be in the range of 400hp, and should MSRP for around 28k. Quote:

Okay.....
This isn't an overpriced Challenger SRT8 we're talking about. No matter what engine they put in, it MUST compete with the V8 Mustang (27k). And it just so happens they want to put in a 400hp V8..... |

You know the first gen Z/28 only had a 302. But it was a pretty awesome motor with low displacement. Now I don't know if the current V6 is capable of accepting aftermarket dual-turbo's but if it did, I would consider it. For me its not about number of cylinders. Its about performance plain and simple, and I don't really care how they get there. The original Z/28 had some pretty radical ideas for its day, I think GM would do well to go back to some similar ideas with today's technology.
Having said all that...I'm really hoping a 550 HP version is offerend right away.

I know it sounds too good to be true, I was once a doubter myself. But think of it this way, Camaros are always priced near Mustangs. Chevy's are almost always priced below Pontiacs. And the base V8 Camaro is expected to be at 360 hp as an absolute minimum, 400 is expected by many. Put all that together, and you have a ~400 hp Camaro for ~28k.
