Its faster in a straight line, when everything else is equal, because of the weight ( solid rear axle is lighter and better at the drag strip). And how many SS you see with real drag wheels setup at the track? Not many because it costs a lot to buy wheels that clear the big brakes, unlike the tiny Mustang brakes.
Lets see what happens with the heavier new Mustang (75-100lbs is my guess) meets a LT1 16' Camaro that weights around 3600lbs. Its speculation, of course, but it sounds really realistic to me..

New mustang is ~200lbs lighter than the old one. Who knows about the new camaro.

![]() The other thing about good handling, it makes your car more fun to drive every day, even if you never track it. The Camaro because of its ultra stiff chassis and more advanced suspension do give some advantage to the Camaro. But it also feels big, has awful visibility, and the weight is noticeable along with sloppy bushing compliance to dull the effect. The Mustang being lighter feels more tossable and sounds better doing it. Also it has a rough edge to it that is satisfying to tame. So even though a 1LE may outrun most Mustangs on a road track, it is meaningless in every day driving to your point. Both are fun to drive. Handling, like most comparisons between the two cars is a wash, with each having only slight advantages over the other. But please people, don't race on the street.

Did Ford say this yet? Many doubters here.

word is that it's as heavy or heavier. a lot of the rumoured weight loss was supposed to come from the car dramatically shrinking in size, but it didn't at all.

All you guys are doing is speculating, no weight figured out yet. Although I see people are hoping the mustang is heavy, I wonder why that is?

Ford hasn't said much of anything besides it was faster than the old boss 302. No one even knows power numbers but the high lift/duration cams, better heads, better pistons/rods/crank, etc should add a bit. Rumors going around that the 5.0 will be 450-470hp which is believable with the modifications they have done. Would be interesting if the 5.0 squeaks out more power than the LT1.

I'll wager a slight power bump with no sacrifice in fuel economy(latter most significant thing), and a weight savings diet equal to what many of you on here are probably capable of anyways, and yes I'm talking your body
.

It was ninety nine cents!

Does it really matter?
How many Mustangs/Camaros/Challengers even remain stock? Chances are they'll be modded at some point, and whoever has the deepest pockets wins. (As long as they know how to drive) All boils down to that, really. There's always someone out there who is faster.
