Now that the 1LE is out there is quite a bit of tracking activity in the 1LE forum just like the Boss 302 forums.

The drag strip Test and Tune is the best deal of all so it is the most popular and the easiest to get started with. Every car enthusiast should experience the thrill of racing. It is the second most fun you can have in your car. No one today should be stupid enough to race in the street. It's not the 1960-70s any more. We were very, very stupid back then. Some of us didn't make it to see the 5th gen Camaro as well as some innocent bystanders and drivers.
Yes, I'm sure quite a few but the percentage difference between those who have raced in some sort of way in a straight line vs those who have been on a road course would be a STAGGERING difference. Again my statement was not directed to anyone who has actually raced their car on a road course.

Its faster in a straight line, when everything else is equal, because of the weight ( solid rear axle is lighter and better at the drag strip). And how many SS you see with real drag wheels setup at the track? Not many because it costs a lot to buy wheels that clear the big brakes, unlike the tiny Mustang brakes.

Lets see what happens with the heavier new Mustang (75-100lbs is my guess) meets a LT1 16' Camaro that weights around 3600lbs. Its speculation, of course, but it sounds really realistic to me..

Yes we agree. I like how you use high emphasis words.

The other thing about good handling, it makes your car more fun to drive every day, even if you never track it. The Camaro because of its ultra stiff chassis and more advanced suspension do give some advantage to the Camaro. But it also feels big, has awful visibility, and the weight is noticeable along with sloppy bushing compliance to dull the effect. The Mustang being lighter feels more tossable and sounds better doing it. Also it has a rough edge to it that is satisfying to tame. So even though a 1LE may outrun most Mustangs on a road track, it is meaningless in every day driving to your point. Both are fun to drive. Handling, like most comparisons between the two cars is a wash, with each having only slight advantages over the other.

But please people, don't race on the street.

word is that it's as heavy or heavier. a lot of the rumoured weight loss was supposed to come from the car dramatically shrinking in size, but it didn't at all.

All you guys are doing is speculating, no weight figured out yet. Although I see people are hoping the mustang is heavy, I wonder why that is?

Ford hasn't said much of anything besides it was faster than the old boss 302. No one even knows power numbers but the high lift/duration cams, better heads, better pistons/rods/crank, etc should add a bit. Rumors going around that the 5.0 will be 450-470hp which is believable with the modifications they have done. Would be interesting if the 5.0 squeaks out more power than the LT1.

I think after direct injection (whenever that happens) it's going to be closer to the LS7 numbers, but probably a 'peakier' set of curves.

I'll wager a slight power bump with no sacrifice in fuel economy(latter most significant thing), and a weight savings diet equal to what many of you on here are probably capable of anyways, and yes I'm talking your body .

Does it really matter?

How many Mustangs/Camaros/Challengers even remain stock? Chances are they'll be modded at some point, and whoever has the deepest pockets wins. (As long as they know how to drive)

All boils down to that, really. There's always someone out there who is faster.

If this thread doesn't end with the most remarkable statement on this topic I've ever read in such few words,.......

Dude, IMHO, you just single handedly ruuuuuuined just about every post in this thread including mine.

I think the debate will rage on. There is no way to settle the question once and for all. But it is more fun to race than discuss.
