http://www.nhra.com/UserFiles/file/G...egulations.pdf Plus,....I think this has been covered OVER and OVER and OVER again. It's a car that you purchase right off the showroom floor. The ONLY change to make it go 10.8 are the drag radials. NO MODIFICATIONS what-so-ever. 99% stock minus the stock tires. They were STREET LEGAL drag radials that was used for the quarter mile, 10.8 @ 126 miles. |

The motor is 707 SAE certified. The almost 800 HP number comes from a dodge engineer stating the motor in reality makes almost 800hp because it takes 80+ HP to spin the blower.

What is the purpose of the blower? If that were true every manufacturer would state that. The supercharger generates horsepower not takes it away. What would the motor be rated without the supercharger? The only two numbers that matter are crank horsepower (what the engine makes at the crank) and rear wheel horse power which is determine by a dyno. Kind of dumb to say I am not going to add the supercharger because it takes away horsepower.

A supercharger makes more hp than it takes to turn it....the engineers were simply stating it takes 80 hp to run it, the net result is 707....Your supercharger on your Zl1 takes hp to run and the net result is 580...

The supercharger is not an accessory. You can play with removing accessories to get bigger crank HP claims, but removing the supercharger probably isn't going to help much.
Kind of like saying if you didn't have to consume 25HP driving the cam and valves, you'd have more power...

Pretty interesting race. 1/8 of a mile. Not sure if that was a stock ZL1 or not. The Hellcat won with an unimpressive 8.6 sec, not by much. Someone mentioned the best the Hellcat ran was an 8.4 sec. A modded GT500, who posted this link in another forum, said he was running 8.1-8.3. Edit: Correction, the best time was an 8.343 @87.80 mph for the Hellcat. So I'm not misunderstood, it is possible the production Hellcat will run 10.8 on 20" drag radials, or 11.2 on the OEM tires.
It's just the whole "NHRA Certified" thingy that is funky.

Oh yeah I hear you on that. What bothers me is why didn't they NHRA certify everything else? The 0-60, or even the 392 model cars, or Scat Pack RT. Is it because it wasn't "record braking"? Does certifying cost a lot of money and time? I don't know.

Couldn't Ford have claimed the record for most hp/ fastest muscle car ever with the present GT500?

Until Dodge advertised it, I had never heard of it.
Even at 10.8 on tire, I'm not sure that would be any kind of record for a stock auto.
