You'll still see some gains from it. The ECM is set up to run in a parameter. It gets a voltage signal from the MAF, among other sensors, and then adjusts fuel and timing accordingly, within the limits of the factory set guidelines. The real purpose of the cold air intake is to reduce the restriction of air flow. Keep in mind, that your engine can only pull in so much air, limited by valve lift, and cylinder size, so this will allow the engine to pull in all that it can by eliminating the restrictive stock system.

A tune will increase the gains at this can optimize the fuel and timing to a more precise setting. However, a tune is not really required until you start modifing how much air the engine is capable of pulling, i.e. cam, heads, etc.

This. The Cold Air Inductions Inc system typically shows about +15rwhp without any tuning.

How does the factory Z28 intake compare to these?

There have not been any back-to-back comparisons that have included the Z28 system on the LS3/L99 but it does appear to make comparable gains to some of the aftermarket systems.

I was curiuos about this too... does the extra money (not taking into account that its a factory part) do anything extra for you? The filter looks about the same as any other oiled filter but the box and tube are different

No, it does not out perform the aftermarket systems. It is comparable for bolt on applications.

Creeper Rs had his car dynoed with tbe z/28 cai.....look at his post. Better then a stock unit.....and if his gains are accurate better then everything else. But who knows until another dyno comparison has been done including it. I just don't find as much info about it as I do for other cai...theRe are a few members that have it.....pm them

Cold Air Inductions intake is AWESOME. I got one for Christmas and tossed it in that day. On top of a ported TB, the difference is night and day from stock.

Now that I'm getting air IN, now I have to get it OUT. Headers here I come!
