Getting the fluid out doesn't appear to be as simple as the video. Do I have to worry about getting air in the brake/clutch lines?
What is the opinion of the forum about a connection between the dark brake/clutch fluid and the problem I'm experiencing with my clutch? I'm debating with myself whether or not to change the fluid or just take the car to the dealer and have them take care of the problem. Russ |

DONT TOUCH THE CAR!!! Take it to the dealer, let them tell you whats wrong with it first. If they give you shit then maybe change the fluid. ITS CRAP like this that makes me hate GM!!! If the service department gives you any shit CONTACT GM RIGHT AWAY!!!

Good advice Bear, I was thinking the same thing but I don't know how they would know if I replaced the hydraulic fluid if I didn't tell them.
2SSRS- That is the exact color of the DOT3 fluid in my Camaro. Based on your experience would you be confident my problem is with the fluid? And would changing the fluid fix the quirky acting clutch? Thanks, Russ |

is it bad if your engaging the clutch around 1100 rpm. I say i do this about 50% of the tinme, the other half is at around 900....
btw if im on a flat surface, if i let the clutch go smoothley, the car will just start to move like an automatic car. Ive done this a few times but stopped in fear that i might damage anything. Ive never driven a standard car that could do this. Is this somehthing i shouldnt be doing? Thanks for the advise. P.S ive been driving stick since i was nice. But learned on cars that need gas to go or else they would just stall. |

1100 is no problem. I'm impressed that you can be so consistent at 900. I have driven many manuals and I never start at a consistent RPM. I don't even look at the tact, I can just tell by the sound when to release the clutch. And that starting on a flat surface while not giving it any gas, Welcome to the wonderful world of powerful Torquey V8’s.

I would say don't touch the car or change out the fluids, untill it has been looked at. If there is a problem your service department will need all the clues to hopefully figure it out.

I'm in agreement. If you change the fluid and still have a problem, the service guys may miss this evidence for a larger problem. Let them have first crack at it. Also, imagine if everyone fixed problems without GM knowing about it, we wouldn't be getting more refined products. You may be the only one on this board that has had a problem, but not all camaro owners are on this board. There could be a building problem- like what was uncovered with the starter cables, or the manual transmissions.

Russ, I'm assuming that you bought the car new...however, how many miles were on it when you purchased it?..And if there were a few miles on it...you can never tell how the prep department, salesmen, car valets, etc., drove her...just a thought...some of them may have tried to see how much rubber they can lay before delivery...that may not be the case, but who knows. Remember, it's not their car, and they couldn't care less about it.
Bottom line: Take it into the dealer...that's what your warranty is for! |

Bucking bronco
I have a black SS with manual. After about 300 miles, I had some issues where the car was bucking violently. I got my car to the shop. They said the wiring harness had been installed improperly from the factory. It went across the manifold and was shorting out the traction control. I don't know if there have been any other instances of this problem. My car runs fine now. Chevrolet dealership said they were going to make a report of this for GM. I suspect any problems that are found are used to create a database.

2SSRS- Even though I think the problem is with the hydraulic fluid having clutch dust in it, but I'm afraid if I do anything the dealer can use that as an excuse that they don't know what the problem is.
Mark- Yes I bought the car brand new, still had the plastic on the seats. The car had 3 miles on it when I picked it up on 6/17. |
