I've never driven a manual, my entire life. My dad likes to drive both, but got tired of manual's and went to strictly automatic. He figured it would be easier to just stick with automatic. Maybe one day I would try, but i doubt it at this point. I'm 32 years old.

The kids all buy automatics, but when I let them drive the Camaro they get that s-e-grin! How hard can it be? My mom learned to drive with a three-on-the-tree when she was 16. That's all they had then. Learn or walk. Nobody bitched, that was the way it was.

My brother, he loves the strip. He's building a '71 440 Plymouth GTX like he had in the '70s. 747 TourqeFlight, 4:10 screw, 3500 stall, cam from hell, hi-rise intake with a Holley on top. Only competition were the Hemis. We would emberass 396 Chevelles. (AHEM, at the Great Lakes Dragaway, of course) Those old Dodge and Plymouth had the straight line down with the rear leaf springs. Sucker just squatted for an instant, then BAM! I can't wait for a ride when it's finished! But it's not something he is ever to drive every day. My Camaro is more fun to me because I just walk out, spark it up, hot or cold, rain or shine. Let the clutch out in neutral after a few to circulate the trans fluid. Do you do that with your automatic? Put it in neutral for a bit? I've read the pump is off when in park so when I drive an auto I always give it a few in N.

I don't think the pump in an AT can be "off" in park, else there wouldn't be any fluid pressure or flow to operate the friction elements or circulate through the torque converter. As far as I know, 'Park' is still 'Neutral' plus the activation of a mechanical sprag that locks the output shaft. Chrysler Corp really did have their leaf spring technology down better than the competition. I think they used some kind of asymmetry in the way the leafs were assembled. Quote:
For rontammy's benefit, a day on a road course is kind of like a drive in the country. Only faster and with no worries of having to sit through roadside or station-house interviews with members of the law enforcement community. Norm

And you get to kill cones! Road course, not cheap, but your instructor will be with you and when you put a wheel off the road he can teach you how not to be all knees and elbows. That's the big thing; No panic. It will improve your street driving X10. Anticipation/reaction.
