Who doesn't know how to drive Manual transmission?

Wife asked if I was tired of shifting gears in everyday driving, traffic etc , I don't have any problem with it and love it. She brought up how I didn't know how to drive a manual transmission until she taught me, which is true. In my defense, we were 16 years old at the time, and now both 27.

Just curious to see if there are anyone still, these days, that can drive a manual car?

Or do you know how, but just prefer an automatic instead?

Sure, I've owned a few manuals over the years. I even enjoyed them, especially my '72 GTO. As I've gotten older and the technology has gotten better, paddle shifting, sport mode, I just tired of 'rowing' the boat everywhere I go. Haven't had to change the clutch disk or pressure pad in decades. To each his own, get what you want.

I'm with Kenny Camaro...
Over the years, I've owned quite a few manuals, including a 1961 Impala SS, 1969 Road Runner and a few pickups, to mention a few. I'm at the point in my life where I still want a powerful, fun car, but don't need to manage the gears unless I want to.
As others have said, to each his own... get what you want.

I know lots of people who can't drive them. I have been driving them for 32 years. I will probably always have one. It makes me feel like I am actual DRIVING my car and not just tootling around in it.

I've never owned a manual transmission, but I can drive one. I swore that I'd never buy an automatic sports car, but the ticket to getting my Camaro was buying it for my wife who couldn't drive a stick. Since then I've commondeered it as mine, but it's still an automatic. I wish I had a manual since the car is only a fun car these days, but I can't complain about how fast it shifts post tune.

you probably worded that wrong. would have been better to say "just curious to see if there are anyone still, these days, that can drive a manual car?

last I heard, only about 15% or so of cars produced come in a manual. back in the day, manual's were standard on base model and lower trim level cars. that why a lot of older people know how to drive them.

My camaro is my pleasure fun car so a manual was a must for me. I don't like manual for a daily car tho just because I like to be lazy so when I'm in my work car many hours of the day it just makes life easier in an auto. I love manual cars for fun and performance driving. I would say there Is a population of people in the 16-30 age group that do not know how to drive a manual car. I make it a mandatory thing to anyone in my family to learn a manual shift trans. Next up is my niece in a few years, she will be taught to drive a manual shift vehicle and how to change a flat tire and service a car before she can take a road test. I will be tougher on her only because she will be inheriting my current camaro Someday.

I didn't think about the amount of Manual/automatic availbility in current time. You are right, if there are way more autos being made, then lots of people probably wouldn't even think about learning, or trying to drive a manual

The way its going, in a few years no one will even know how to drive. Get in, tell it where you want to go and sit back and relax.

Honestly the way people are distracted now it's probably best since nobody is actually just driving their cars after they text/talk/eat/apply makeup etc anymore

I dont think you will ever lose the freedom to drive....too many classic cars and pre driverless cars on the road to convert over but as time goes on more and more cars will be self drive

Learned to drive on one but haven't drove one in years, besides modern autos shift a lot faster than most people ever could and you don't have the driver error.

I learned to drive a manual as a dd in college. Having 6 drunks in a Ford probe while learning to shift gears was interesting to say the least.
