Honestly? Wear a badge that says so...

I love what the last Z/28 was.

But I will once again lament that is has become SO exclusive...that we don't even get one this time around...

A Z/28 has several hallmarks. Light, strong normally aspirated motor and road course capable. The 6th Gen can do light and track capable. Could GM build a NA Z/28? Sure, but it will struggle to be in the same performance envelope as the Z/1LE. 650/650 is a tall order for an emissions compliant naturally aspirated motor.

Why would we want a second banana Z/28?

It would be like the last Z/28 vs the ZL1. Maintain speed better through turns. Break harder and later.

I do have to say, I think this car will be challenging the Z07. It's going to be a monster, if they can keep temps under control.

The ZL1 1LE will only be available with a six-speed manual transmission, just like the Z/28. Why not just call this a Z/28? Chevy says that name is reserved for naturally aspirated cars, and wouldn’t rule out a true Z/28 variant in the future. For now though, consider this your Z/28 successor. Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser said this model is “not your daily driver,” but it is “a little more of a daily driver than the Z/28 was.”
Here you go...

The question is can the Z/28 exist as a NA car with more track focus........but maybe not the best lap times?

I have a hard time believing a 500 hp plus NA Camaro with CC brakes, race tires and lighter weight, maybe 250 pounds less than the SC ZL1 1LE, could be faster around the track.

Look at it this way...

SS/1LE weight: 3747.
ZL1/1LE weight: 3823.

That's less than 100 lbs between the two as it stands.

Yes, but think super light weight. But that means premium materials..........and that means $$$

My guess is the ZL1 1LE is north of $70,000. Are you ever going to pay MORE for a slower car? Oh wait people buy Mustangs so never mind.

The last Z/28 ran on Trofeos. The C7Z on Cups. Put the Z/1LE on either one and you are looking at a RIDICULOUS automobile.

Question -- is the Z/1LE not on tires comparable to the C7 Vetted because it is faster?

Thinking on it, although I remain hopeful, I just don't see what GM can do with the Camaro to end up at Z/28.

Yes, you could go more track focussed than the ZL1 1LE. Lighter weight, track tires, CC brakes. But the brakes just make the car more expensive and lighter weight simply means aluminium, magnesium and CF, none of which are cheap.

Yes, you could do an $80,000 Camaro and sell 500 of them or so a year.

GM is getting crazy here as well as going down that path puts you at par with the starting point of a Z06. Now you are just stealing sales from yourself.

Historically, the progenitor for the Z/28 wasn't the biggest displacement or the highest HP Camaro, but it was the best on the track. Is there anyone who thinks there is a way to get a car around the track faster than the ZL1 1LE without simply having the same cost as the Z06? I'm lost on that.

Now supposedly GM has the LT5 on it's way. Who knows what that brings. OHC? Would that even fit under the hood? a 90 degree DOHC V8 is a wide engine. Is it even more HP? And would that fit the bill for the Z/28 to simply have Hellcat HP in a Camaro? GM is just crapping all over the Corvette if they go there IMO. Remember, Fiat no longer has the Viper and Ford's GT is so far into hyper car pricing they both can go places GM probably shouldn't...................but probably will in what remains too much old GM.

I'd sure like to see a Z/28, but I'm now having a rough time imagining what it could be.

I can't find myself disagreeing with much of what you've said, 3....

I'm not one for giving up, but the reality is quite convincing...I would say there is reasonable evidence to suggest there will not be a Z/28 for the 6th generation of Camaro. The name is tied very closely with the engine choice.

It does have a few other tricks... like adjustable front ride height, rear bar and camber plates. Also, the pictures of the tread on the tires look like Trofeos even though everything says they will run a new Goodyear.
