You may know this already but just so you don't go wasting your money, this won't add phone bluetooth. There isn't currently a known way to do that easily.

So I just revisited this with my 1st Gen 30gb Zune. I tested the same song back and forth (Metallica - ... and justice for all , it was the first one that came up) and I did notice a difference. It was extremely slight, however. The biggest difference was the volume level. The aux cable was a few clicks lower than the USB. The other difference was a slight loss in dynamic range. The bass didn't hit quite as hard and the highs weren't quite as crisp. At first I thought they were both identical. But I switched back and forth and listened to the same sections of the song with each and that's what I came up with.

I purchased the part and went on Friday to "try" and get it installed. At first they told me that the MDI was not communicating with the car. They eventually got it to communicate but the car was not able to receive the update. They tried for several hours and they said that they would have to send their "VAC" to my work on Monday.

The only thing that happens when I plug in my Ipod touch is that it charges, but it will not play music. Even the AUX port doesnt work anymore. I can't even access an Ipod menu through the radio. I'll let you guys know what happens if they show up.

Any ideas what's wrong or why it's not getting the update?

What are you trying to update? I believe it's the radio/head unit that needs the update, not the PDIM (although it might also need an update). Power is very basic and just indicates that the PDIM is getting power. Next step is getting it to communicate with the head unit.

Yes, that is exactly what they were trying to update. For some reason, they cannot get the radio to update, therefore, I can't use the PDIM/USB/AUX port for squat except to charge an Ipod.
