I always liked the Camaro, and remember their Heyday. I was a kid in the 60s when Chevelles Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, GTOs ruled the streets. I was never old enuff to buy one new but did reach driving age whe they were still plentiful has used cars, never got a Camaro but did end up with a 69 Ply RoadRunner for 10 years or more.

Speaking of my old 69 383/335hp-425lb torque RoadRunner....lets clear something up right now. My old RR was road tested in the old magazines as running the 1/4 mile in hi 14 sec times. The new V6 Camaro is tested from low to mid 14 sec. times but I caan assure you the Camaro could not touch my RR in quickness. The reason for the hi 14 sec times is strictly do to traction. The tires then had nowhere near the grip of todays tires. The RR would screach the tires for what seemed like 3 or 4 seconds leaving 10 foot skid marks. I suspect with todays tires that RR would be at high 13s even if it was the size of a tank.

Hmm lets see reasons:
Well I never saw any of the movies, they kinda looked like for kids to me. Was never to any car shows for a long time, so never saw the concept cars of these. It was when I was driving down the road in our honda civic, and one turned the corner coming towards us (black one). All of a sudden I saw the mean look of those halos and the style of the car and my adrenline started to rush inside. The faint flame flickering of years past of driving some sweet rides when I was at a younger age turned into a blazing flame. Going back to my 20's and 30's and going to have a perma grin again. On the waiting list for the new Z28(HP) thats going to start production early next year. |

5TH_GEN_SS . . . . are we related? I've got relatives up in Cleveland.
My Camaro might be in my garage this coming weekend. Here I thought I was gonna have to order one and then two dealers tell me they've found TWO exactly to my spec's within 200 miles of here. Talk about things happening quick! Is this a good country or what? |

Long time lurker, first time poster.
For my wife and I, Chevy goes back to our high school and college days wrenching with friends. I had a beloved 87 Monte SS and a beater 87 Formula 350. Also in the pack where friends with a 73 Nova and a 92 Firebird. (As an aside, I remember doing ECM tuning with a custom EEPROM from Craig Moates. Can't believe that was a decade ago!) We all universally loved 1st gen Camaros the best, but never imagined actually owning one or a brand new one for that matter. I was in Detroit & saw the concept in 2006... and did not care for it. The Challenger just seemed to "get" the retro styling so much better. Fast forward to the Transformers movie, and I actually came away wanting a second gen more! It made me nostalgic for something other than my Saturn SL. The second gen ss down the street that was for sale tortured me for months before it finally sold. By complete chance in late 2009 we were on vacation, and at the rental car counter there was a sign boasting the new Camaro for rent. I jokingly asked if there were any available, and we ended up putting 1k miles on a V6 auto after a week. It was awesome. Both our cars were ready to give up the ghost late last year, and we were exhausted trying to find something we both enjoyed. We spent every free moment for weeks test driving vehicles, finally giving serious thought to the one car we knew each other wanted. Suddenly it all made sense; classic meets modern in an attainable package. We turned into the what now feels like a tide of inevitability & are thrilled with out 2011 1LT. Comfort & Convenience package for the phone connectivity, 19" wheels look great (love the steel & heritage wheels looks, but just to small!). Can't wait for winter to break, its been over 5 weeks since we've driven it here in SnOhio. |
