Don't have mine on either - going on 3 months Saturday, 12/5. I had to sign the waiver instructing the dealer NOT to put it on. There are threads here that show how to install it will zip ties and rubber to protect the bumper - as I think was already mentioned above. That would be my intention. Now, if you get a fix-it ticket, fix it, then take it off again, won't they know that for next time? Not sure then if you'd get more than just a fix-it ticket...

Yup, I think my registration for this new Beast was over $800!! :( Lots of reasons to stay in CA, lots of reasons to leave...

As a police officer in a state that requires front plates, i can tell you this...

LIDAR, or laser, is not aimed at the plate. When I trained on it, I aimed at the car in general, mostly the center of the grille, to the area at the base of the windshield. LIDAR can get you from way far away, over 1/4 mile in most cases, and long before I can tell if you have a front plate.

Most front plates get so dirty, they are hard to read, especially backwards, in my mirror. They are nice when a car is parked and I need to run the plates.

They are great for cameras. Although, we don't have many in my neck of the woods, so I honestly don't know how effective they are.

Personally, I believe it's more revenue driven, and I like the fact that if I need to pull a car over, and the driver isn't giving me any reason too, not having a front plate is great PC.

Windshield placement isn't acceptable in Illinois for two reasons, the plate isn't attached and it is obstructing the windshield. So technically, I can get you twice for that one.

A little off topic, but why would you need to pull them over if they aren't giving you a reason to? Former Federal Agent here, so I am not to in the know on traffic laws etc.

So true ... funny thing is I left NY for the very same reasons in 79 ...

3 months without one so far, I hope to god the police around here have better things to do than pull over people without front license plates... :-\

I have my on a retractable mount under my bumper and it open with a remote. You can't see it when it is retracted and If i get pulled over I can just flip it out.

Dont do the double sided tape. I flipped mine upside down, drill a few holes in them and used zip ties to die em down to the lower grill. Tight and secure, looks great and oyu would think its drilled, but its not

...I have been driving around without my front license plate for 2 months now and have been behind cops, passed cops and nothing. I guess I have been fortunate or maybe it's because I still have the dealers decal in the rear so they think that I just bought the car and I have not received my plates yet...LOL! I also have a 92 Conv. Camaro that I have been driving for 5 years and have only been pulled over twice for not having the front license plate and in both cases they let me off with a warning, no fix it ticket!

Talking

First off Welcome to the forum. There have been a couple of threads concerning this subject and you will find that people seem to go in one of three directions on this.
1. Some elected to go with no front plate and take their chances on a ticket.
2. Some got stuck with the factory bracket because the dealer installed it.
3. Some are doing something inbetween (like the hideaway bracket or some other bracket that does not require drilling the front bumper).
I also live in a state that requires a front plate, so I installed the flip down bracket that mounts under the bumper. That way all the holes are out of sight. This bracket works very well and I don't have to worry about a ticket. Here are pictures of my install. In the end you will have to do what you think is best for you.
Again Welcome and enjoy your new ride.

I got a warning ticket from my "neighbor" a state trooper that lives in my small town (nice guy, hunh... real neighborly!) anyway I refuse to attach mine to the front bumper... I have mine on my dash, "attached" to the glass with two clear suction cups that I bought at Walmart. Yes, RUBY goes to Walmart! In Texas the law reads: License Plates must be "at" the front & "at" the rear of the vehicle. No other details..... so, there you have it... If I get ticketed for it, I feel certain I can beat it. It is visible from the front for a great distance & it is readable. It really doesn't inhibit my view either... I can't see over the hood anyway!

He is talking about using the no front plate as a reason to stop a car. Example: You find a car in an area where no one should be late at night. The car is behaving the traffic laws. Officer sees the equipment violation and now has a solid reason to stop the car and find out what the occupants are up to.

(Currently copping and I teach Law enforcement classes at college also)

Maybe he was just trying to save you from getting a ticket from someone that wasn't as nice as he was. A warning ticket doesn't cost you a nickel.

And since you still refuse to attach it, don't complain if you get tagged for it.

Not getting as warning ticket doesn't cost you a nickel either. Unless a warning ticket prevents another officer from issuing a real citation, he's a douchenozzle to issue it to a neighbor.
