mobil 1 is not a good break in oil, imo, it does a horrible job on the seals and it seems to create questionable engine noises during start up.

I changed mine after 500 miles. Was going to dump the stuff the minute I got the car home, but there were a few people claiming it had extra additives not found on the store shelves. The next change will be at 1500, or May, whatever comes first, and then every six months regardless of mileage.

The reason to shorten the first oil change is not because the oil wears out, it is because there are more contaminants put into the oil while the engine is breaking in.

Also, I think the quality of Mobil 1 may have declined over the years, and there are many other good synthetic oils on the market that perform equal to or better than Mobil 1. I changed to Valvoline Synpower because it had 8 times better wear protection than Mobil 1 in the standard wear test. Castrol EDGE had similar wear test results.

Changing synthetic oil every 2500 miles? The OIL is good for 6000 unless you're running the Baja 1000. Change the filter at 2500, if you like to keep out contaminates, but leave in the Royal Purple for 5000.

I cut my old filters open and look at what the filter media trapped. It's similar to what they do with aircraft engines, only they use a micro-scanner to check what's in the oil.

I went for my first oil change at 700 miles and the dealership denied me my free oil change because they said it didn't need it and it wasn't at 6k miles yet. They said gm wouldn't aprrove it. They said if I wanted it done I was gonna have to pay for it! Needless to say I didn't get it done and I WONT be going back there. Was very ticked off! I could of swore I read in the manuel that it says to do first oil change at 600 miles. Did I misread that?

The maintenance schedule begins at 7500 miles. Its separate from the OLM but there is nothing about an initial change. Just change the oil yourself if you want it done. The quick lube places rape you with synthetic prices.

you guys know the break in oil is NOT synthetic right? you can't break in a motor with full syn it is too slippery and the rings will not beable to make a proper seal. I suggest 1000 miles for first oil change then do w/e you want after that. I do oil analysis so I take my DD cars up to 25k miles between oil changes. Filter changes at 15k. That probably scares some of you, but my 24v cummins diesel tow rig and daily just ticked off 328k miles with those oil change intervals.
