CAUTION: This unit is not compatible with the 2015 / 2016 models yet. The 2015 and 2016 model Camaro has something different with the Buss system and the use of this panel causes intermittent catastrophic failure while driving including: all instrumentation, most all warning lights come on, theft deterrent system failure, air bag service failure, on-star shuts down, Metra panel and the radio head unit shut down. The car is still drivable and does reset itself while driving after about a minute. In my case, everything returns to normal except the head unit does not come back on until the car is shut off and restarted. My experience thus far has been three failures within five days the panel has been installed.

Metra is aware of this issue and is working on it with a TBD timeframe. Per Metra, this will be fixed through a software update.

I had both also! Finally threw in the towel and back to factory!

I am hoping that the idatalink Maestro will be introduced for the Camaro. It is a sweet functioning system for the Mustang. Uses the data buss and your head unit to display all kinds of functions including vehicle diagnostics and code clear, analog / digital gauges that are in addition to the standard ones, just down right cool!! The told the installer shop that hopefully later this year!!

I just installed the Metra kit over the Memorial weekend and went for a short test drive and had no issues. The next day on my way to work, what you described above happened to me. It freaked me out and I was scared my car would shut off on the highway. Luckily, it didn't and I made it to work but I was freaked out that somehow there was a short circuit somewhere. I parked my car and locked my doors. I started to walk away and the damn stereo turned on by itself. I unlocked the doors and went back in the camaro and the stereo started shutting down again. I turned the ignition on and the stereo and Metra kit remained off. I was worried that my car battery would die while I was at work so I stayed in the car, locked the doors and waited for the stereo to turn on. When it did, I held the source button to shut down the stereo and went to work. 8 hours later on my way home, the stereo turned on but not the Metra kit that controls the AC controls. I pulled the system out and rechecked all my connections and they were all nice and tight and had no shorts and they were also correct per the instructions. I reinstalled the kit and reconnected the battery and the Metra kit turned on again. I played with it a little bit and changed the color for the lcd screen and turned the system and car off. I decided to go for a test drive before calling it a night and before I could leave the driveway the Metra's climate controls stopped working including the lights and all but the stereo remained on. This is so odd. It definitely sounds like a software issue. Today on my way to work everything turned on and performed as expected. I am expecting it to stop working soon as this does not make much sense.

I also drive a 2015 Camaro LS and was hoping you received an update from Metra that would resolve this but I noticed you went back to the stock head unit. Oh well.

I contacted Metra and I am hoping they get back to me soon.

The sound shop that did my install keeps calling to see if an update is available. He is checking both brands and which ever has the fix first is the one I will go back with. I will post as soon as I hear something or hopefully someone else will do the same if they hear anything.

Sorry to hear that you had to go through this also. They should state that these are not compatible with the 2015/2016 models to keep people from spending the money to have installs done and then have issues that they could avoid. I personally wish I had known.

Metra and scosche both are good brand when it come to dash kit, but i would go with scosche cause most car i have i use that brand. But it up to you.
Scosche are more luxury look to me then metra.

For the last few days since I pulled out the stereo to verify that everything was connected properly and put it back in, the Metra kit and stereo have been performing perfectly with no issues whatsoever. I did receive an email from Metra's tech support with an update file for their interface but because it has not failed since I have not attempted it. If it ever fails again I will try the update or I will update the interface when I install my amp and sub if I ever decide how I want that setup to be.

Either way, I just wanted to update you that for the last 3 days my Metra Kit has been performing perfectly fine. I am puzzled as to why it was not before and why it is working now since I have not rewired anything. At this point I am thinking that because there is so little room for the wires behind the stereo that maybe this created a problem somehow. Honestly, I am not sure. If it ever fails again I will update this thread but for now I am enjoying my new stereo

Like I said these units are hit and miss. No consistency for both brands.

I had the Alpine perfect fit kit, everything worked fine when it was installed in my 2010 2SS. However, I did have limited remote range, everything else worked flawlessly. I'd imagine Scosche would work just as good?

Update: My Metra kit failed after 3 days. I have now updated the interface with a file Metra sent me and that did not fix the issues. The climate controls turn on and off randomly while the stereo remains on.

Again, this is for my 2015 Camaro. If anyone has a 2015 model and has gotten the Metra kit or Scosche kit to work properly, please let me know. I'm wondering if I just have a defective kit.

Quick update:

It looks like I had 2 issues with my Metra kit.

1) It needed a firmware update. (Which I received by Email from Metra)
2) It had a defective HVAC wiring harness (loose pin) which is why the climate controls would sometimes not work even when the stereo would. (I received a replacement from Crutchfield)

A bit of a pain in my rear for all the troubleshooting and such but I am happy for now and hopefully will stay that way. I will update this post if anything changes.
