Reviving this thread as I just changed the oil last week in the Z and used the notes here and a few other posts before I did.
Didn’t change the bolts to the magnetic versions, but probably will on the next go round. After reading some good info here, decided to dig in. Although a little more involved than doing a non dry sump, not so low to the ground vehicle, really wasn’t that bad. -I did buy some new jacks and race ramp wheels cribs, which made it easy to get her up in the air. -Belly pan was easy to remove with a battery operated impact wrench. -Didn’t need a removal tool to pull the 2 “spikes” that hold the belly pan on after all the bolts are out, I just gave each side a tug and they came loose. -76mm socket on a ratchet made the oil filter removal easy. -15 mm bolts on the sump. One was leaking pretty good before removal so I got 2 new rubber seals at AutoZone. (Was leaking enough that I had to clean up the belly pan pretty good w degreaser before reinstalling) -Got 2 5 qt jugs of Mobil 1 5w30 and a Mobil 1 M1-113A oil filter all for about $80 at Wally World. -Installed drain plugs, filter, belly pan, lowered car, filled w 9 Qts and took for a drive. -Got car up to about 184 degrees (oil temp). Supposed to get up to at least 175 degrees. -Shut down for 10 min and checked oil. It was exactly 1 Qt low. Topped off with the last of the oil in the second jug (1 Qt) DONE! -I did NOT remove the oil lines to ge the last of the oil out as I’ve seen on the Z06 videos. I doubt the small amount of old oil left in those lines makes that much of a difference (1/4 of a Qt) when you’re putting in 10 Qts of fresh oil. All in All, a pretty fun/satisfying project. With the wheel cribs, the car gets up in the air pretty good. I may do the tranny and diff fluid the next time around as it didn’t really look to difficult to access and the procedures are pretty straight forward. Posting a few pics of the jacks and wheel cribs. Last edited by FLOW TIE; 03-15-2026 at 08:29 AM. |

Nice setup! Those cribs are a tad pricey but I'm thinking they're the type of item that once you start using them it turns out to be money well spent. If you don't have one already, grab yourself a Motive Power Fill pressure pot for the trans fluid. Really makes the trans job easy.
