Running Thread: Header Install Questions

Okay, first time installing headers, I'm going to do it over the next couple of nights, as I work 8-5 during the day. I'm going to throw all my questions here.

How do you get the spark plug wires off? Is there a plug? do they come off from the bottom or top of the wire? if so, how?

Edit: These are Kooks LT 1 7/8" headers with offroad pipes connecting to stock exhaust with an axleback and electric cutouts. Got them from Branden at Maryland Speed.

ignore my girlfriends pink computer case haha

Grab the fat rubber end of the spark plug wires and pull!
Not to sound like an ass, but if you don't know how to remove the plug wires, are you sure that you are ready to install headers?

BTW - took me 4 hours start to finish to install my Kooks. Could probably do it in half the time with a lift...

twist them a little bit before pulling. These are newer cars, but on some cars that haven't had the plugs pulled in awhile you may rip things out of the wires you don't want to unless you break the seal between the plug and wire.

Got it. I knew to pull them, I was just tugging more than on other cars, and thought there might be something I didn't know. I'm pretty mechanically savy, just wasn't sure since i've for the most part had newer cars that I've never had to change the plug wires on. Thanks for the tip though.

Disconnecting Front O2 Sensors

Hardest thing to do in my honest opinion was disconnecting the front O2 sensor plugs at the back of each head.

How do you disconnect the rear o2 sensors? Do they disconnect at the header end or on the plug end? If on the plug end, how do you get them unplugged? I can't see up there to see exactly how to unplug them!

Got the clips off, they're just like the front ones, they have a plastic pin that locks it in place, once that's removed, you can unclip them like normal plugs.

Update for the night:

Driver side header finally off. Onto the passenger side tomorrow night!

The reason for this thread is so when someone searches for questions about header install, they have a one stop shop for it possibly, because i'm sure i'm going to ask every question in the book! haha.

Thanks guys!

Agreed, disconnecting the HO2s wires, removing the plug wires and plus first is the most important part.

Then it's all spartan from there.

Best of luck and call me if you need any help....seriously,

I should've thought about that, dang, oh well, I'll do it on the passenger side while they're still on the car, and work with the drivers side off the car and I'll post my results!
