Plasti Dip.

Guys I Plasti Dip'd my Tail Light Bezels today and it feels and looks very grainy. Ive put about 5-6 coats on each bezel. is that enough or to much? also when I tilt the bezel on the right light I can still see some chrome on it.

What am I doing wrong? Is the results I got Normal? what do I need to do correct??

Thanks in advance!

Did you clean the bezels before you applied the coats?

I did not do my bezels but I did my bumper blackout with plastidip. I only applied one thick coat and let it dry.

If I were you I would just paint them with adhesion promotor and black spray paint, thats what I did.

wow, really? i've plasti dipped my rims and tail light bezels, and used a bunch of thin coats. i was told that if you went too thick, it would cause bumps. heh, interesting.

One thick coat, smooth and even.

I'd say that's 3 coats too many. Peel it off. Doesn't the can say wait an hour between coats?

Don't spray too far away. The closer to the object the smoother the texture.

Less coats, and hold the can closer. I just do two coats, one light, one thick.

Seriously, I rotated the bezels as I applied each coat to avoid that coverage problem but still missed a small patch. But since you can only see it from about an 80 degree angle from 3 inches, I'm not sweating it. From an angle and distance normal people look at things I think they look great. I applied I think 3 light coats about 20 minutes apart. There's really no way, I think, to avoid some appearance of "grainyness," it's not paint but synthetic rubber so it's going to have the same texture as rubber-coated hand tools. I'll post some pics of mine if I can get around my workplace firewall.

I did two heavy even coats. I did notice one thing. I bought two cans of the stuff. I did three of the bezels using the one can and they came out with more of a glossy look. I did the last bezel with the other can and it came out much more textured, so I had to redo it with the other can. Maybe that is the problem. Take a look at my second picture. This is before I re-did the fourth bezel. See the lower right bezel. I don't know how well you can make it out, but the texture is much ruffer than the others in the pic.

You want to start with light coats, and then go heavier on the later coats. The further away you hold the can the more textured it will look/feel. You only want to wait 5 minutes or so between coats. I posted a thread called "plasti dip application tips" search for it. It'll answer pretty much all of your questions.
