Congratulations on your new Camaro! I know you want to keep your new baby clean. You were told correctly not to wipe it off in the garage. All you'd do it grind dirt into the paint, and it isn't going to hurt the car to leave it dirty. You need to be able to rinse off as much dirt as possible before using soap to help prevent scratches.

I normally just use a good brand of car wash like Turtle wax, which doesn't strip off the wax and comes in a gallon jub, and use 100% cotton hand towel to wash it with, and 2 100% cotton terry towels to dry it with. Do not use any fabric softener in the towels, as it causes streaks. There's a bunch of tips on this site including recommendations to use a gas or electric blower to dry the car off. I'd go trough the postings and come up with a method that you feel comfortable with. Also, once you get it clean, I'd apply a good wax or polish to it. This makes cleaning the car much easier.

whom ever told you that, was RIGHT. It will just GRIND IN the dirt into your finish. If you want, before you pull into ypur garage, drag out the water hose and hose off the entire bottom half with the spray nozzle to knock off all or the biggest part of the dirt. and if you really want, wash it, but if its raining day after day, its just going to get dirty as soon as you leave the house. BUT if you keep the biggest part of the dirt off, it won't build up.

Who said you can't wash them in the rain. I do it all the time. Then I pull it in and dry it off.

NEVER wipe your car down after driving it in the rain, no matter how clean it may look. There are alot of contaminants picked up in driving.

I too have washed my car in the rain, while its snowing, etc., and then pulled it inside to dry. I know its more work to have to wash it, but its the safest and best way to ensure your finish remains looking "showroom new".

Invest in a good wax/polish asap, as well as a good quality car wash, and a couple of wash mitts, and you'll be set.

, I don't know how many times iv'e gotten the stink eye from friends, neighbors, family members, for washing my car in the rain. They just don't understand. Out here in texas we have clay dirt that gets in a fine mist kicked up from cars and lands on your paint. Most people don't notice it until it gets really bad.
