Ground Effects......another front lip "toasted"
Hello,
Just picked up my 2SS/RS on Thursday evening.Today was only my second trip in the car. On the way back from the window tint shop my front lip let loose and was dragging on the Interstate. Dealership sent out a tow truck to pick it up. My biggest gripe is that i talked with the Chevy dealerships body shop manager SEVERAL times about making sure the front was rivited thru the fascia....I have read all the threads about these being installed wrong. Well after it was destroyed it is obvious that there were no rivets anywhere along the front lip....only double sided tape.Body shop INSISTS that it was installed as per instructions....Yea right!! Well, now for the wait....need new front GFX and cant tell if the factory fascia is damaged at the side mounts until GFX are removed for inspection. Are the GFX still being sent with incorrect installation instructions or are dealers STILL just not giving a $hit and doing what they want with no regard to the mounting instructions???? |

The dealer caught mine right off. I had to wait an extra day to pick it up so they could install it right. Now as for 'what is right?' I have no idea. It's held on so far. I've got 4500 miles on it and it's been pushed up to 125mph and still holding tight. I'll know more in a few weeks when I take it in to get the gfx painted to match the body.

Well, i have about 60 miles on my car and was doing about 80mph when it let loose. Mine are painted to match the car.....dealer had it several days longer than i was qouted and they were still installed incorrectly even after we discussed the rivets. This time around im telling them not to re-install the front fascia until i look at it to see if the rivets are installed as there is no way to see them once the front end is on the car. Im NOT taking anyones word for it this time.Shame on me the first time....not this time!

I just received my GFX and will be installing mine myself. I read the instructions thoroughly and not only is the front lower lip plastic riveted through the bottom but ALSO through the front of the fascia where the 3m tape is on the GFX. It is critical that this area be riveted as well (through the backside of course) after wetting out the adhesive tape. The kit comes with a template to make sure these rivets are placed properly...hope this helps.

what about the rest of the ground effects, is it also suppose to be riveted? Wanna make sure when the dealership puts it on, make sure its "done" right.

No, the rest is put on just with the same mounting clips as the factory rocker panels. The rear diffuser has 3M tape, and must be wetted properly and
then needs at least 24 hrs before it is driven. The lip piece gets 3M and rivets from the inside after taking off the front facia. I noticed that the inside of my front facia had little crosshairs molded into the plastic in the exact locations where the holes had to be drilled for the rivets, making it easy to get the right spots for the rivets.

If it's put on correctly it will never come off. I've had mine up to 165 mph
quite a few times and it's still solid. Fixxxer, you might want to edit the four letter words out of your post, if the mods see it you will get banned.

This issue has been resolved for MONTHS. Idk why your dealer installed them wrong. I was one of the first people it happened to. It sounds like you have done your reading tho, so I wish you Good luck!

At my dealership we try to encourage people not to order the GFX package. I hope the 20011 model has them installed at the factory. They have been a bit of a headache.
