18 or 20" drag radials

I tried this post first in the tires threads. Only 1 response.
I have a 1ss m6. I'm looking to get drag radials. What would be the correct size to give me the best results,18" or 20" I thought I read about the smaller size being better. I have an extra set of 235 X 18 that I have studded snow tires on now so I was wondering if I could save cash by putting the drag radials on them. Any advise would be appreciated.

The smaller wheel and larger side wall is alway better.

Im running a 20" wheel with a
305-35-20 Nitto DR and my best 60' was 1.799 That was at 18psi and in 50deg weather.
Im going again tomorrow night and will try 15psi. I have a Maggie so traction is always tough.

Which 18 rims do you have?

I was looking to learn what rims would fit over my Brembos. I also have a 1SS M6. Did your rims have any clearance issues with the brake calipers??

I haven't had any luck using the search function yet.

The C6 Z06 FRONT wheels will work on the Camaro but only in the rear.
Those are next on my list.

I had no issues with getting the rims. I'll get the size for you when I get home.

so the 18" I have as far as size is ok but the 235 width isn't what I want if I'm reading you right

Im not a wheel Guy so hopefully someone will chime in that is. BUT from my understanding your wheel would be rougly 9.25" wide and would allow you to use a 275-50-18 tire. There are other components such as Backspacing and offset that you have to take into consideration too, that will determine if your wheel will even clear the brakes and if your tire will fit in the wheel well.

Thanks! As far as the rim clearing the brake pads I already use the rim I'm talking about for my snow tires so I know the rim has no issues. Friend of mine has a son who works in a tire shop I can check with him. My real question was what rim size would be better the 18 or 20 and you helped with that. By the way I've got about 10k on your shifter and I'm loving it !

The wheel you want is the C6 Z06 front with a 40 mm offset. This way they bolt right up with no spacer. As for tires, thats your call, but I was running the M and H drag radial 275 / 45 / 18. Pretty much the stock 20" tire height. At 17.5 psi I was able to cut consistent 1.60 60's. Unfortunately a 1.60 is cutting it enough so I'm on to slicks. I have my set for sale in the classifieds if you'd like to see pics of them up close or on the car. Gd luck but stay away from the 20's. The 18's will perform better on the track.

I put the 315/35 R20's Nitto's on and BMR subframe connectors. The Pumpkin started 60footing at 2 flat instantly. Happy camper.

If my car 60' at 2 flat I would drive it into the woods. I went to an 18" dr and was at 1.60 consitently. But even that wasn't good enough. I'm now onto the 17" Hoosier slick. Hopefully that will before better.

Buddy. I not trying to go in the 10's. Prior to putting on the Nitto DR's and BMR subframes, 2.3 was the best best 60' on stock tires. My goal is mid 12's at our local track (100' above sea level). I have a complete ARH system to the muffler tips 1 7/8 LT's with cats ready to go on. Those and a tune and I'll be there! I have a complete second set of of wheels for the strip. MSD digital shift light and SJM roll control is also going in for the strip.

I'm also going through the same situation with my 2011 GT500 w/ 20" rears. You've seen all the problems thoes 750hp Super Snakes have getting traction with their 20's and poor rubber. I'm waiting to see how the new Nitto NT05r's in the 20" size hook up and perform vs their 18" versions. Either way I'm sending off the rims to weldcraft to get widened to allow for 305's or 315's or maybe 325's if they will fit.

I may just get some cheap 18" 2010 gt500 vert knocks offs and get them widened and keep my 20's for the street use until they get overpowered from future upgrades.

You may want to troll the gt500 forums for more info on 18's vs 20's

I find if funny that I bought one of the first batch's of BFG DR's back in the late 90's in 275/60/15 and they were great in my 67 Camaro in my sig and they hooked up every time and now I see them using the same tire and size on the back of these late model mustang's running 15" rear's for drag racing. 15's still rule the strip.
