Launch control + 18" drag radials = one VERY unhappy PCM
I ran my 2010 SS at the track for the first time yesterday with drag radials (18" BFGs) while also using the launch control since I was bracket racing at the time.
I do have to say that after trying it several weeks ago at the same track (but with street tires) I was not a big fan as all I got that night was a lot of wheel hop and several embarassing launches. Yesterday was a totally different story however. After getting a reaction time of .102 on my first pass I eventually figured out what light to leave on and things only got better from there. Not only did I become the #1 qualifier for the ladder used during eliminations after cutting a .012 light in the first round, I followed that up with a .021 and then back to back .010's made 20 minutes apart at the end of the day. I was also racing my 2007 A6 Corvette yesterday (but in a different class) and was actually cutting better lights with the Camaro which I never would have thought possible beforehand. This is where the good part of the story ends though. For most of the day despite having almost every light show up on the dash by the end of the run, I was still able to selectively turn off the traction control for the burnout and then activate the Stabilitrak for the run itself. On my last run however I wasn't able to do anything with either the TC or LC and it couldn't have come at a worse possible time since I was in the semi finals when it started acting up. I ended up running the car and just hoping for the best but it decided not to cooperate as a surprise rev-limiter kicked in at 5000 RPM which almost caused me to lose control after the car took a very sudden nose dive. So my big question is whether there's a way to get around this? The funny thing is that I drove all the way to and from the track with the drag radials on the car (75 miles each way) and with the exception of all the lights being on in the dash, the car ran fine. I wasn't running the Camaro in the class where I usually get points for each win so I wasn't too bummed that it happened when I did, but given that I might want to use it in that class the next time (as the A6 trans in the Corvette probably needs to be rebuilt) I'd rather know ahead of time that this won't happen again and at such an inopportune time. So did I just forget to do something or press a button? Any other tips or suggestions on how to get around this? Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for the help, Christopher |

I had the same problem with the BFG drag radials because they were a different height than the stock setup. Got a set of M&H that were the same height as stock and no more problems. It's something to do with the back wheels turning at faster speed than the front makes the stabilitrac go nuts.

Hold the TC button down for seven seconds and turn everything off for each burnout and run.
